It was 9 PM, and Arizona had just finished her shift. The hospital was quieting down, and as she stepped out into the parking lot, a gentle snowfall began to blanket the ground. She took a couple of steps forward, relishing the crisp air, when she suddenly remembered that she hadn't driven to work that morning-she had taken a cab. Annoyance flickered across her face as she pulled out her phone, ready to call for a ride home.

Just as she was about to hit the call button, a familiar voice called out from the hospital doors. "Hey, Arizona! Let me give you a lift. You took a cab to work this morning, remember?"

Surprised, Arizona turned to see Y/N walking toward her, a warm smile on her face. Despite the chill in the air, Arizona felt a warmth spread through her. She smiled back, shaking her head slightly. "Thanks, Y/N, but you already paid for my cab this morning. There's no need."

Y/N closed the distance between them, her expression insistent yet playful. "Come on, let me drive you home. I need to know where you live in case you decide to get drunk and pass out again."

Arizona chuckled at the comment, her initial hesitation melting away. "Alright, alright. You've convinced me," she said, relenting with a grin.

As Arizona followed Y/N to her car, Y/N complimented her on the surgery she had witnessed earlier. "That surgery today was incredible, Arizona. What you did was amazing."

Arizona felt a rush of gratitude and surprise at the sincere compliment. It had been a long time since someone had acknowledged her skills in such a genuine way. For a moment, she was at a loss for words, simply absorbing the warmth of Y/N's praise.

"Thank you," Arizona finally managed to say, her voice soft. "That means a lot, especially coming from you."

As Arizona thanked Y/N for the compliment, they reached Y/N's car. Both women stood facing each other, smiles playing on their lips. An unspoken understanding seemed to pass between them, and for a few moments, they simply admired each other in the quiet of the snowy night. The silence was comforting, filled with a sense of burgeoning connection.

Their moment was interrupted by a distant voice, calling out, "Dr. Y/L/N, please!" Arizona looked across the parking lot and saw the same nurse who had been making Y/N uncomfortable all day running towards them. A trace of displeasure appeared on Arizona's face, a reaction she couldn't hide.

Y/N turned back to Arizona, leaning in slightly. "I'm sorry for what I'm about to do," she whispered.

Before Arizona could ask what she meant, she felt Y/N's lips pressing firmly against hers, catching her completely off guard. A rush of warmth flooded through her as she closed her eyes and instinctively reached up to touch Y/N's hand. The kiss, though brief, was intense and electrifying, sending a powerful surge of emotions through both of them. It was a kiss that lingered, sweet and full of unspoken feelings, making the world around them fade away.

Y/N pulled away and turned to see the pesky nurse, who had now stopped in her tracks, a look of shock on her face before she turned and walked away. Y/N, with a hint of relief, turned back to Arizona.

"I'm sorry for that," Y/N said, her voice apologetic yet amused. "She's been asking for my phone number and asking me out on dates all day. I've been trying to get away from her, but she keeps finding me. Unless I kissed you, I don't think she would have left me alone."

Arizona, still in disbelief from the kiss, said nothing. She simply stood there, processing the unexpected but pleasant turn of events. Y/N chuckled softly, breaking the silence. "Come on, Zona, hop in before you get cold."

Arizona snapped out of her daze and smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and confusion. She did as Y/N said and got into the passenger seat of the car. Y/N walked around to the driver's side and got in, starting the engine. The warmth from the heater soon enveloped them.

As they settled into the car, Arizona gave Y/N her home address. Y/N reversed out of the parking space, and Arizona couldn't help but make a joke to lighten the mood. "Try not to hit that nurse from two minutes ago."

Y/N chuckled, appreciating the humour. "I'll try my hardest not to."

Driving out of the parking lot, a comfortable silence settled in as Y/N concentrated on the road. After a few minutes, Arizona turned to Y/N, curiosity getting the better of her. "So, why did you come to work in Seattle?"

Y/N glanced at Arizona, her expression thoughtful. "I used to have a clinic down in San Francisco, but I missed being so far away from my family all the time. I'm originally from Oregon, where my parents are, but my brother has been living in Seattle for a couple of years now since graduating from university. I decided to join him to be closer to him ever since graduating from med school abroad."

Arizona nodded, intrigued. "That makes sense. Family is important. Did you always plan to work in the States?"

"Not really," Y/N replied. "I actually went to med school in England, at Cambridge. I loved it there, but I missed being away from home. So, after graduation, I came back to the States."

Arizona's eyes widened with interest. "England? That's impressive. I thought I detected a hint of an accent in there."

Y/N laughed, surprised. "You noticed that? I tried to get rid of it, but some habits die hard."

The conversation flowed easily between them, and before they knew it, they had arrived in front of Arizona's apartment. A wave of sadness washed over Arizona at the thought of the car ride ending, but she covered it with a smile. "Thank you for the ride, Y/N."

"Anytime," Y/N replied warmly.

Arizona opened the passenger door and stepped out, shutting it behind her. She was about to walk away when she heard Y/N roll down the passenger window and call out her name. "Arizona!"

Confused, Arizona leaned into the car to see Y/N's face. They stood there, looking at each other for a minute. Finally, Y/N said, "I don't regret kissing you tonight."

Before Arizona could even reply, Y/N drove away, leaving Arizona standing there, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She watched the car disappear down the street, a smile tugging at her lips as she turned and walked into her apartment, her thoughts consumed by Y/N.
