Jessie's POV
I arrived at Cody's game store and sat in the parking lot to wait for him to arrive. As I sat in my car, I stared outside the window at the sky and started to think about what my mom said to me.
"YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A UNGRATEFUL DAUGHTER! YOU DON'T MEAN ANYTHING TO ME... YOU DON'T MEAN ANYTHING TO ME... YOU DON'T MEAN ANYTHING TO ME... YOU DON'T MEAN ANYTHING TO ME..."
Those words kept replaying in my head over and over again. I started to feel myself cry again, my mother really hates me, she doesn't care about me or anyone else. I bet if dad wouldn't had called her to come to the hospital to see Max she probably wouldn't have showed. I then saw Cody's car pull up next to mine, I got out of my car as he got out of his.
"Hi Jessie." He greeted and walked over to me.
I had my head down as I stepped closer to him, it's like I couldn't bring out any words.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked.
I looked up at him to see a concerned look on his face. All I could do was look into his eyes with my wet eyes.
"Jessie, are you okay?" He placed a hand on my shoulder.
Tears started running down my face as I couldn't hold them back anymore. "My mom hates me!" I cried.
As I started crying he grabbed both of my shoulder and pulled me in for a hug. "Hey, come here it's okay." He comforted me.
I was sniffing and crying, this was definitely the worst ending to this night. My brother's in the hospital, and now my mom just told me to my face that I don't mean anything to her. And I have to live with that! As Cody was holding me, I felt... Safe. It's like I felt very protected in his arms.
"Take a deep breath Jessie." He told me.
I did what he said and look up at him with wet eyes. "Am I worth it?" I asked him.
"What? Of course you are Jessie." He said. "What makes you think that?"
"Well... My mom just told me to my face that I mean nothing to her." I explained.
"Oh Jessie, I'm so sorry." He said.
"I just feel useless sometimes." I said.
"No don't say that Jessie, I promise that you aren't useless." He told me. "And I'm so sorry to hear about your brother."
I sniffed. "Thank you Cody."
"Hey, how about we go inside my game store. I want to show you something." He suggested.
"Okay sure." I gave a slight smile.
Him and I walked across the street to the store and he grabbed his keys from his pocket and unlocked the door. We stepped inside the dark building and he disarmed the alarm, he turned the lights on and smiled to himself.
"Man I love my shop!" He said.
I slightly chuckled at what he said, he's such a goofball. I like his game store myself.
"Come with me." He stuck his hand out.
I smiled and grabbed his hand, he lead me to the back of the store and into a long corridor. We stopped at a door and he held the handle.
"So, remember that time when we had that adults night out at that restaurant with the rest of our friends?" He reminded me.
"Yeah." I slowly said and nodded.
He had a grin on his face. "And remember when I said that I practically live here?"
"I think so, where are you going with this?" I chuckled.
