AUTHOR'S POV
"Moorgan!!" Y/n exclaimed, rushing forward to embrace her friend the moment they met.
"Geez, Y/n, where have you been? You just disappeared on me," Morgan replied, delighted to see her friend again after such a long time.
Both women had worked tirelessly to get through college. Their parents were in the same accident years ago, which forced them to move to Tokyo with the help of Morgan's grandparents. They had left an apartment for both Y/n and Morgan to stay, making them accustomed to having each other around.
"Anyway, I want you to meet my friend, Mr. Ran Haitani," Y/n said excitedly, eager to introduce Ran to Morgan.
She was hoping to get Morgan's opinion on Ran, to see if she thought he was a good match for her.
Morgan forced a smile as she extended her hand for a handshake. She knew this wasn't the first time she had seen this man, and the same thought ran through Ran's mind.
"It's nice to meet you, Ran Haitani," Morgan said, her smile not quite reaching her eyes.
"Likewise," Ran replied, keeping his hands in his pockets and staring at Morgan.
Sensing the tension, Y/n quickly decided to break the awkwardness by pulling Morgan along for a shopping spree, causing her bank account to trail behind them.
"Do you not like him? He's so hot, right?" Y/n whispered to Morgan as they walked.
"It's not that. I just don't want to trust him too easily. He's your friend, right? How did you meet him?"
"Hmm, somewhere. I'll tell you when the time comes."
Morgan couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. She could sense the tension between her and Ran, but that wasn't what bothered her. She wanted Y/n to have nothing to do with Ran once this was over.
They moved from store to store. Morgan wasn't one to spend money on shopping; she always thought it was a waste. She just let Y/n buy whatever she wanted since she made more money.
"This color looks good on you," Morgan said, showing Y/n a backless red dress.
"Really? I like the—"
"Too revealing."
Both women glanced over to Ran, who was standing behind them with an expressionless face.
"Hmm, maybe it is kind of revealing," Y/n said, putting the dress back.
"What? You like those types of dresses," Morgan protested. "Don't tell me you put it back just because he said so?"
"No, it's really not my thing. Hold on, I'll look over at that section," Y/n said, leaving the two alone.
"I'm sure you still remember me," Morgan said, turning to face Ran.
"How could I forget?"
"Leave her alone."
"You might not know what you're saying," Ran responded coldly.
"Oh, I know exactly what I'm saying, Ran Haitani. Leave her alone. Don't tell me you've forgotten that you are to blame for what happened to her back then?"
Ran hated women who talked too much.
"So, you never told her about me? You took advantage of her lost memories and moved her here to Tokyo, so I'd be out of her life?"
Ran had already assumed Y/n had lost her memory when he saw her again. But what's strange is that Y/n doesn't remember Ran, but she remembers Morgan immediately.
"Her parents put me in charge of her before they passed away. It's the right thing to do. You caused her so much harm!"
"I would have protected her with all I had if I had known that would happen. I would have saved her—"
"But you didn't. You were put in prison. That shows who you are."
If Morgan wasn't Y/n's friend, Ran would have killed her already. She always meddled in his business with Y/n before she even lost her memories.
She gets on his nerves, acting like she's the hero. Ran thought to himself.
"So, you're saying you're the better person here? Fuck that, Morgan. You're a manipulator, erasing me from her memory."
"Her life's been better since you were gone. Why can't you just be gone again? Why can't you just die, so my friend wouldn't have to go through the same hell you've put her through? She doesn't deserve someone like you. She deserves someone better—"
"Don't you dare meddle again!" Ran yelled, aggressively grabbing her neck and pinning her to the wall next to them.
It caused a scene inside the store, but Ran was too enraged to care what people thought or saw.
"What? What are you going to do? Kill me?"
"I will, Morgan. Trust me, I will," he said, clenching his jaw and tightening his grip on her neck. "Don't you dare meddle with us again. You're just a roommate, so act like one!"
Ran finally let her go, fixing his necktie before walking in the direction where Y/n had gone.
In the back of his mind, he knew Morgan was involved in the accident that happened ten years ago. Because she hated Ran for Y/n, Morgan would do everything in her power to separate them, even if it meant using her connections.
"Let's go home," Ran said softly, wrapping his arms around Y/n's waist as she checked out a pair of heels.
"Now?"
Ran nodded, placing his chin on the top of her head as he hugged her from behind.
This simple gesture made Y/n smile as she put the heels back. "Okay, let's go home then."
Ran turned her around. "Are you not going to get that?"
"You've been paying for everything that I've bought," she chuckled.
"So?"
"Are you not going to stop me?"
"Who am I to stop you?" He shrugged, giggling.
"It's your money, silly."
"So?"
This made Y/n laugh as she went to take back the heels she was checking out.
Ran then picked up the shopping basket filled with different clothes and items.
"I'm going to get something for Morgan. Wait, where is she?"
Ran simply shrugged, not wanting to spend another second with her friend, as he might not control himself and end up killing her.
At the same time, Y/n's phone received a notification. Morgan had sent her a text.
"Oh, she went home already. She said she isn't feeling good."
"Are you done with these?" Ran changed the topic immediately.
"Yup, let's go home."
Meanwhile, Morgan was already on her way to make another deal, just like she did ten years ago, on February 22nd to be exact.
