Summer, 2
TuesdayDear Diary,
Today I've made some progress in the valley. A little actually. I watered my seeds, fed my pets and went into the valley. There were people outside having conversations that I didn't bother to listen to. I thought about introducing myself to a few of them. I decided against it. I'm used to people coming to me.
So I walked on until I got to a small bridge and saw a field with corn and pumpkins and other summer crops. I walked across the bridge and stared at the crops in amazement. They're so healthy and well grown!
I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going and heard a squeal as I bumped into someone. I looked down to see a girl with a basket full of corn rubbing her shoulder with her free hand.
"I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed.
She smiled and smoothed her long brown hair. "It's okay. I wasn't paying attention.
"No, it isn't I--"
"Hey!" a guy yelled. He rushed over and helped the girl up.
"Watch where you're going!" he said to me.
Is this really happening right now?
"Well then! Excuse me, jerk!"
"Marlin, that wasn't nice," the girl said.
"Celia, look. Your leg is scraped."
She sighed. "I'm fine. Loosen up a little." Then she briefly looked at her leg. "At least I didn't drop the corn."
"Yeah, that would've been bad," I said.
Even though this Marlin guy was rude, I didn't want to just leave. It just didn't seem like the right thing to do.
He scowled at me. "Shut up. No one was talking to you."
I kept myself as calm as I could. "You're talking to me now."
"Maybe if you don't talk to me I won't talk to you!"
"And if you don't talk to me I won't talk to you."
He growled so I stuck my tongue out at him. Childish. Yes, I know.
"I'm sorry for his rudeness. Marlin, let's go," she panicked. She gripped the basket and pulled Marlin with her right hand.
"You're going to let her get away with that?" he protested.
"You started it," she replied though I could hardly hear it as they walked into the house in front of the field of crops.
"What a gentleman," I grumbled to myself.
Okay, Celia: possible friend. Marlin: an enemy.
Seriously, I bet he is rude to everyone except her. She must be his girlfriend or something. Well, maybe he won't be an enemy. I'll make him like me. He's going to be my friend whether he likes it or not.
If she likes him...I guess I could kinda see why. He's handsome with blue eyes and has short wavy black hair with one piece in front of his forehead. His hair reminds me of Elvis.
Celia seems to have a gift of looking good in anything. She was wearing a partially green dress a lime green checkered apron(I think). She also had a yellow bandana on her head. That's something I would never look good in.
Anyway, I stomped over the bridge and was about to go home. Then I heard someone say something. I didn't understand what it was, but I felt it was directed towards me. However, I kept walking until I heard the same male voice shouting, "Hey, Dana-daisy!"
I panicked and turned around to see a guy with short blond hair and coffee brown eyes.
"Da--"
I ran towards him and covered his mouth before he could say anything. I usually wouldn't do such a thing but he knows something he shouldn't. But why was he so...familiar?
"If you call me that again, I will strangle you."
I looked around and fortunately, no one was looking. They weren't too many people walking around so I removed my hand.
"But that's your name, isn't it?"
What is up with this guy?
"N--No! Where did you get that from?"
"A little birdie."
I huffed and he gave me a mischievous smile.
Where have I seen that smile before?
"Congrats. You broke the time record for annoying me."
"Do I get a prize?"
"Yeah. A reality check if you call me that one more time."
He laughed.
"Usually it takes some days for a girl to go off on me. Either you're a grumpy person or you were already agitated."
I rose a brow.
"I'm surprised. You're a little smarter than you look."
"And you don't act as pretty as you look."
"I don't know if I should be flattered or offended."
"More flattered than offended."
I frowned. I'm not a big fan of flirtatious guys.
"I bet you flirt with every pretty girl you see."
"And you are correct!"
With my irritation rising fast I blurted, "You make my butt itch."
Dannie! That was completely out of line. You don't even know him!
But I felt like I did for some strange reason. My head ached when I tried to figure out who he reminded me of.
He just laughed. "It was nice meeting you, too." Then he jogged off.
Was there a bit of sadness in voice? Probably imagining it.
"By the way my name's Rock!"
He continued jogging until he reached what looked like an inn from the back of the building.
As I said, he's smarter than he looks cause he went away at the right time. I see more bumps and bruises in his future.
So I finally made it to the ranch and I saw Gramps playing frisbee with Ryoushii. I don't know where he got it from.
He looked at me. "Did you make any friends?"
I stared at him. "I thought you said everyone here was nice."
"I didn't say they nice. I said they're kind-hearted."
"Whatever. So far I've met Rock, Celia, and Marlin."
"And?"
"I hate Rock. Marlin is mean. Celia's nice."
"Just try to be friends with the girls then."
"Gramps, you know I've always gotten along better with guys than girls."
"But if you don't like the guys here, you need to make friends with the girls."
"I don't need to."
"Everyone needs friends."
I promised my friends that I'd come back to visit and yeah, they are mostly guys. Not my fault.
"I don't need friends here. I can go back home anytime I want."
He shrugged. "Suit yourself."
He obviously wasn't happy with my attitude but I didn't really care at the moment.
I went into the house and flopped onto my bed. So I started writing in this thing cause I was bored. However, it seems that staying here won't be as boring as I thought.
