Although Riley knew James appreciated and liked the playlist she had made because James made that very clear via texts, they hadn't had any alone time due to preparations for their last two games of the regular season. Since the games were at home, the team had the extra tasks of celebrating the four fourth-years' last games. Luckily five third-years planned a party Saturday night after the last game and invited the entire team.

The close proximity of their teammates and equipment managers (including Kristin) resulted in very limited interactions between Riley and James. Instead, furtive glances were exchanged at every opportunity and each kept close tabs on the other. In fact, more than once Riley had caught James checking her out from across the room. The desire to be close to James, to touch her, was overwhelming Riley but she knew this was the worst possible place to act on her feelings and thus their physical distance remained.

It was only in their classes the following week that they were able to resume their flirty touches and playful banter. Due to the fact that their team was in the CCC Championship, the team was facing even higher demands to focus and perform well for their first game on Wednesday.

Although the team was unaware of the cause, their victory Wednesday was due in large part to Riley and James' connection. Both girls were playing their best individually as well as with each other. As a result, everyone left the rink in high spirits and excitedly anticipating their away game Saturday.

Riley had walked out with Kenny yet was left alone when Kenny opted to leave with Tyler in his car. Lost in negative thoughts regarding Kenny and Tyler, Riley was startled when she felt a warm hand grasp her own from behind in the dark.

Gasping as she was pulled around to face the owner of the warm hand, Riley peered up to find James' familiar face grinning down at her, hands now wrapped around Riley's waist. Breathlessly Riley stated "You scared me!" as she playful smacked James' shoulder before winding her arms around James' neck.

The cold February night meant that each exhale was visible with a little cloud forming at their mouths before gradually disappearing. Neither girl noticed the chill however with their bodies pressed so closely together.

"I just had to see you. To touch you." James explained as she looked down longingly at Riley. "We haven't really had any alone time. And I miss you."

Riley smiled playfully "We have two classes together plus practices or games every day and night!"

"You know what I mean." James retorted.

"I do." Riley confirmed more seriously.

Not breaking eye contact, they each moved incrementally closer until they abruptly broke apart and the sound of voices behind them in the dark.

Almost protectively, James said "I'll walk you to your dorm" as she fell into step beside Riley.

Smiling to herself Riley let James escort her home.
