When Kenny returned to her dorm in search of Riley after practice she found Riley sitting on her bed. "You didn't have to do that" Kenny said, walking from the doorway to sit in Riley's desk chair.
"She was fucking with you" Riley replied angrily.
"I know but I can handle it" Kenny said.
"You shouldn't have to handle it" came Riley's furious response.
Kenny repositioned herself in the chair "Well I don't think Claire is ever going to mess with me again. Actually, I don't think anyone will."
"Good" Riley stated, still brooding.
Riley was still thoroughly annoyed the next day and night before their first game began.She didn't know how her teammates would be during this game and at this point she didn't really care. Riley got dressed for the game in near silence despite Kenny trying to cheer her up. The rest of the team continued to avoid Riley but most of them seemed to be going out of their way to be nice to Kenny at least.
Luckily, Riley's bad mood only seemed to enhance her skills both during warm-ups and as the game started. Most of her teammates even seemed to be putting the game above their feelings and were passing and playing normally with Riley. With one notable exception. James continued to avoid passing to Riley at all costs and blatantly ignored any attempts Riley made to help her. James even went as far as to refuse to communicate which resulted in Riley being blindsided by the other team more than once.
Despite James' blatant sabotage towards Riley, the team still managed to win with both Riley and James scoring. The mood was positive in the locker room following the game, with Coach V providing more positive than negative feedback. Coach V ended her speech with a reminder that although it was halloween weekend, she expected everyone to avoid any parties that night and to be well rested for tomorrow's game.
Kenny caught up with Riley as they headed to find food and explained that the fourth-years on the team were having a halloween party tomorrow night after the game at their house off campus. "They live in one of the beach houses down the road and the whole team is invited!" Kenny exclaimed. "We're gonna go, right?"
"I dunno... I doubt anyone wants me there" Riley replied wearily, "but you should definitely go."
"I'm not going without you" Kenny whined. "Please go with meeeee. It's a Saturday night and halloween! We can't just stay in our rooms"
Riley rolled her eyes "Fine. But I'm only going for you. And I'm leaving if there is any drama."
"Yay!" Kenny squealed excitedly "We're gonna have so much fun, I promise!"
"Uh huh, whatever you say" Riley replied, unconvinced but bemused by Kenny's enthusiasm.
