TUN TUN TUN
Barely the first rays of the Sun illuminated the passages of Hallownest, when the rumbling of the door caught the attention of the two inside the residence. This was definitely not visiting time, and they were both already imagining the worst-case scenario.
When Bretta left her room, she could see Ghost, who had slept on the living room couch, hidden behind the door and with a dagger in his hand, ready to execute anyone who was outside the room. Both he and the young woman looked at each other, and just by nodding their heads, they knew what they should do.
Had he already discovered them? How was it even possible that they had located them so quickly? If they were the soldiers of the Soul Cult, they should act immediately. Survive at any cost, and flee as soon as possible.
Bretta approached the door, while Ghost remained hidden like the shadow he was. The young woman's heart began to beat with fear, the ghost's grip on her dagger grew stronger. Tense seconds increased their fears, when the door was knocked a second time from the outside. Then, the young woman finally opened the door.
—Hello, Bretta-chan. —Said the male voice of the subject in front of the door.
—Kenishi? What the hell are you doing here? And... Are you drunk? So early? —
— No no no, Bretta-chan... I've only had a few drinks. —
Ghost didn't know who this guy was, but it was clear that Bretta didn't feel very comfortable with his presence. Furthermore, the way he spoke was very inappropriate, to the point of not knowing if he was in full use of his faculties. For now it was better to remain silent and listen.
—Kenichi, I don't have time for you right now. I'm busy. —
— Oh, come on Bretta-chan... Let's have fun... Come on... I know you'll like it. —
— Kenichi... Just, go away. I'm not in the mood for you. —
— Oh, Bretta-chan... Don't be so mean to me... —
—He told you to leave—
Ghost's sudden voice chilled the blood of both the man present and Bretta, who did not notice how he came out of hiding and positioned himself behind her.
Now, Ghost was able to see this low-life thug with his own eyes. A beetle that caused him repulsion as soon as he saw it, with a bottle of alcohol tied to its right claw, and features that could not be more striking. Although without a doubt, nothing stood out more than that cut he had from one side to the other of his face. Surely a consequence of his actions.
Even the most bloodthirsty predators know when they're in danger, and Ghost's presence behind Bretta's back spoke for itself. The way she looked at him. The way those empty eyes burning with anger penetrated his soul. The grimace of disgust that his mouth was unable to hide. The hands under his cloak, which possibly hid a mortal danger. It was more than clear that it was better not to mess with this guy.
— Wow wow wow... Calm down buddy. —Said the beetle, trying to hide it. — I'm sorry... I didn't know that Bretta-chan had another client. Anyway, see you later honey... I hope you're ready for the big Kenichi tonight. —
Ghost trained hard to control his emotions. His angry face didn't relax for a second, but every word that bastard spat filled him with more and more rage. The temptation to grab his daggers and activate his predator instinct was about to explode, but luckily, it was Bretta's own voice who calmed the waters with even more confusing words.
— Kenichi... I need your help. —
Both the beetle and Ghost were unable not to be surprised, as this was an intervention that neither of them expected. But Bretta still had more to say.
