In a luxurious room in the City of Tears, one of the most powerful and influential beings in the kingdom was preparing for his departure to the Imperial Palace. His imposing mansion was located right in the center of the wealthiest areas of the city, and was always guarded by the most capable soldiers of the Pale Guard.
It was not a simple well-decorated house like those around. It was a palace in every sense of the word, as it was a place founded by the Pale Emperor to be the Mint, and main financial center of the city. But after her death, she was claimed by the Soul Cult faith, and used for other purposes.
It had three large structures. All located facing a beautiful square, above which stood a fountain and several artificial lagoons, with beautiful terraces that always maintained the freshness of the place.
The smallest of the structures was a kitchen, where the most luxurious delicacies in the entire city were prepared daily. Very much in contrast to the extreme poverty that could be found in the most peripheral areas of the City of Tears. In addition, it had enough space to house the most essential personnel of the facilities, as well as deer and trusted servants. All, of course, faithful devotees to the Cult of the Soul, and with a sufficient pension to live happily, without questioning what was really happening in the rest of the kingdom.
The other building, located on the opposite side, was a varied facility, which had enormous training rooms and barracks, where the elite of the Cult's elite warriors were stationed. Soldiers trained in the ways of war, but without the political power to claim a piece of land for themselves. Even so, they always had everything necessary to please your needs, as long as you remained faithful to the cult. And among all the followers, these were the most devoted.
And finally, the central building. A place as large as it was absurd, full of rooms and corridors that ran through the facility in every direction. A place that, although it could not be compared with the Imperial Palace itself, did not differ much from the opulence that its enormous rooms contained. All... so that a single insect could live inside.
And it was at that precise moment, when such an insect was preparing for its departure. In one of the many rooms, where two trusted servants helped him put on his colorful clothing and ornaments, since he had a visit to the Imperial Palace itself, and he had to dress according to the occasion. However, while he waited for the women who dressed him to finish, he listened not very happily to the report of one of his followers.
—What do you mean he escaped? —He asked with obvious anger, to which his servant responded submissively, kneeling on the fine wooden floor.
—As planned, the Tsume Clan army was cornered at the borders of Fungal Wasteland. Reports indicate that indeed, the forces of the Pale Army cornered them. However, many soldiers reported the appearance of a mysterious warrior. Which allowed the mantises to escape. Including the objective. —
—A mysterious warrior? How is a simple bug capable of destroying such a meticulously planned plan? —
—Those who saw him referred to him as a monster. A black hooded warrior, brandishing a black sword with impossible skill. One that managed to pass through our troops like a shadow. —
