Stressed, Yuju threw her pillow on the floor. She lay down on one side of her bed, but after only a few minutes she changed sides. She felt hot, but also somehow not. If she took off her T-shirt and sweatpants now, she would be cold. Tired, she rolled to the edge of her bed, but she hadn't calculated that she would fall off.

"Ouch," she groaned and sat down on the floor. A spot on her arm hurt, she looked at it and discovered a bruise. In disbelief, she tapped it and almost cried out in pain. Before checking the time, she hoped it was at least 5 o'clock.

2:47

Yuju threw her cell phone into a corner of her room and banged her head against her bed. She cursed the doctors, the medication, her parents, and herself. Her insomnia was kicking in differently today, and Yuju couldn't take it. She wanted to sleep, at least five hours. But she had to make do with only 2, or very rarely 3, hours a day. Sometimes, however, she stayed up all night and didn't get a single hour of sleep.

She got up from the floor and tried to regain her balance. Then she moved to her window and opened it wide. She sat down on the windowsill and looked into the distance.

Although her apartment was at the end of Seoul and in an unfamiliar neighborhood, she had the best view from her window. A few cars were still driving around, and drunk civilians were wandering the streets and alleys. It was night, and the moon was shining far and wide.

Yuju looked down from her window. Of course, some people wondered why she didn't just kill herself, since she was going to die soon anyway. But Yuju felt that something good was about to happen to her. Besides, she had a few wishes she hadn't made yet.

She laughed at her hopeful self. Yes, sometimes she wonders what is wrong with her. She began to hum a song to herself as she watched the city. The song, or rather the melody that Yuju hums to herself all the time, is a song she made up. She never wrote it down, but simply kept it in her head and continued to play it.

Bored, Yuju sat down at her desk. She opened her laptop and watched a few videos on the new topic in biology class. What else was she supposed to do at 3 a.m.?

But after a while, the explanatory videos became boring, so she closed her laptop and quietly went into the kitchen. It was dead silent in her apartment. Yuju made herself some oatmeal, even though it was only 3 a.m. She ate it with relish and then washed the bowl clean.

She went into the bathroom and only noticed later, when she looked in the mirror, that she was drenched in sweat. Yuju took a shower and put on her new, comfortable sweatpants.

Suddenly, she heard angry and loud knocking on her apartment door. Who was awake at this hour? Yuju ran to the door, hoping her sister would continue sleeping and not make a scene.

She opened the door a crack and saw her 40-year-old neighbor from the second floor. He stood in front of her in his nightshirt and looked at her grumpily.

"May I ask why Madame is taking a shower at this hour?" He opened the door wider, causing Yuju to jump behind it in fright. She hid behind it fearfully, hoping he would just go away.

The neighbor let out an angry sigh and looked at Yuju before leaving. Yuju hid her body even more behind the door. When he turned around, she slammed the door behind her and ran to her bed.

She jumped in and hid under her blanket. She hated them, she hated them all. These men who think women don't mind them staring at their bodies. That they don't notice how they lick their lips when they look at them.

Yuju sat down and ran her hand through her hair. Her cell phone, which she had found lying on the floor in the corner earlier, showed 3:38. Tired, Yuju lay down and closed her eyes, hoping to fall asleep.
