"What?! How?! What?!" I blurt all at once.

She giggles softly and tells me, "Yes, I knew her, you heard right. But first, tell me, please, how are you feeling?" she asks.

Oh yes, now I remember. That crazy person attacked me and now I'm in my bed covered in... what is this thing?? I must have said it out loud, because I hear another giggle and I turn to look at Her Highness.

"I am so used to slaves having a blank stare that when I see an actual expression, I'm taken by surprise," she explains to me. "And you are very expressive," she adds, with a warm tone.

I never realized our work mask made such a difference. It was normal for us at this point.

"I'm very sorry for my ignorance, Your Highness, but... what is this?" I dare to ask.

"That is a herbal blanket, little one. It helped your wounds heal, and until tomorrow morning you will be as good as new," she calmly explains.

"How is that even possible?" I surprise myself by asking, my eyes wide in disbelief. This is such an awesome skill to have.

I hear another giggle and look at her, her gaze filled with care.

"Did I say that out loud?" I manage to ask, my gaze on the ground, ashamed of my lack of control.

"Yes, you did, but please don't feel bad about it. Your physical wounds might be healed by tomorrow morning, but the trauma will remain for longer, unfortunately," she says, sounding regretful.

"I'm so sorry for what my husband did, but... life in royalty is more complicated than it seems," she says with a sigh.

"Please, Your Highness, you must not apologize. On the contrary, I should be thanking you," I tell her. "If I may be bold enough to say, I would assume this healing blanket is your doing," I add, trying to find out more about what happened after that incident ended.

"Yes, it is. You were barely conscious when Kayro sent word for me to come here. Thankfully, I was with my daughters, so they came along and helped me a little," she tells me.

She must have felt I needed more than that, because she continues to say, "When we arrived here, Kayro was trying his best to keep you cool in a bubble of water. Moyra used her wind to cool it down more, while Talya and I grew some healing herbs. Talya is still little, but very talented and managed to create enough herbs for a third of the blanket. With both Kayro's and Moyra's help, we blended all the herbs and made a paste that was distributed all over your body and affected organs, including your eyes, ears, and throat. To be honest, we weren't sure if your hearing suffered any damage, but there was no harm in putting the paste all over the place," she explains, looking lovingly at me.

"I-I..." was my first try at a response. I swallow the lump in my throat and try one more time, taking a deep breath.

"I have absolutely no way to ever repay your kindness, Your Highness. I am a mere slave, I have nothing, I am not worthy of your time or power," I say with so much sorrow. I wish I could give her something, but I only have myself.

"I know it will never be enough, but I promise to be forever grateful and to pray every day for good health and happiness for you and your beautiful children," I tell her from the bottom of my heart, hoping she would feel the sincerity in my words.

"You are such a sweet child," she adds. "You resemble your mother more than you think," she says, sounding a little nostalgic.

"Me and your mother, Maria, were very good friends. She was a noble and I a royal, but don't get fooled by the labels. While I do have the eyes of a royal, her power was greater than mine," she tells me.
