VladWe didn't talk about anything since, just ate in silence and slept like we were one. Calum had me in his now signature deadly hug, enough to let me breathe, but not much else.
If what he needed to feel safe was me being almost chocked to death, then so be it, but I had some curiosities.
If he hadn't cried like that, I might have found his possessiveness amusing or endearing, but I really thought about it and concluded he suffered from an abandonment trauma. It was linked to his mother leaving him, it had created deep, still bleeding scars. But I knew better, those wounds won't heal by themselves, no matter the time given, so I will help him and I will not abandon him, ever.
After we stayed the night at the cottage, we left at the break of down. Once on the horse, riding and close to Calum, I started what seemed to be our daily talk.
"Calum, I was curious about something." I told him, looking straight ahead, because I wanted to just have a casual conversation and I felt that not having eye contact made it that way.
"Sure. What is it?" he inquired, but I saw from the corner of my eye he stretched out his hand, waiting patiently for mine. I smiled and answered, while grabbing his palm.
"I was wondering. You said you saw and felt my core during meditation. I just don't understand how, I've meditated before with others around me, even if for a lot lesser time, but nobody ever felt or saw anything." I finished my observation.
He stood there thinking for a while and then replied. "I think it has to do with my power. The ability to see cores is not something I learned, but was born with. I would say it's a skill I have thanks to my vampire heritage, but Mr. T assured me there is no other vampire or witch with this talent, so it's kind of unique to me."
"So that means that you are the only one able to see and feel it." I said nodding my head. "That's fine with me, to be honest. I feel it's something private and intimate and I wouldn't like others to experience this" I told him honestly. I was kind of relieved, because even if I wasn't aware that this was what was really happening during meditation, I was glad that this would be something reserved for us only, for him. It was something than only I could give him and that made me happy, really happy.
"So when others want to harm or destroy someone else's core, how do they do it if they can't see it?" I asked again.
"Vlad, I really like your questions. I know you are a smart individual and you don't believe it, but I hope you can rediscover this about yourself." he told me.
"Pff....i'm not smart. If I were, I wouldn't ask so many questions." I replied.
"Nope. Lack of knowledge is not stupidity. Stupid people don't ask or question even if they have the chance, they just follow blindly. You followed because you had to, your life depended on you shutting up, not questioning." he argued... and it kind of made sense, so I just nodded at his explanation.
"And to actually answer your question, destroying or harming a core is about intent, not seeing it. Though you have to touch the body somehow, because the core is inside us, so to reach it there has to be a connection." he explained easily. That made so much sense. "Oh, and one more thing, one can destroy the core without harming the body and that is the cruelest way of killing, because while we can't live without it, our body does have a little bit of energy on its own. So if one has only his core destroyed, the body will slowly whither away." he added and I gasped, widening my eyes in horror. That was absolutely horrific, I hoped to never hear about such a death.
"And no, I never did this, if you are asking, but saw it done by others. When I'm on a mission I try killing as fast as possible and if I want to kill somebody, I want to see them taking their last breath, but I don't have the patience to wait for their body to die, not because it's too cruel." he said and shrugged his shoulders.
