The hardest thing Sam had ever done was making Celaena believe he was dead. True, he didn't have a choice; it was either that or doom them both. Hearing that Adarlan's assassin got sent to Endovier, though? That almost killed him, but at least she was alive. There really wasn't anything he could do right now, so he faked his death and turned his back on Adarlan, on the whole continent. He did feel bad for the poor guy he left in his place, the one that Rouke Farran tortured to death. He might have deserved death, but not that kind.
It was easy but expensive to get passage out of there, but he had to do it; it was part of the deal he made with Arobyn to keep Celaena alive.
After paying the captain of the ship, he made his way to the deck. He didn't have any money left to get a room, least of all a bed, so the floor would be his place during these months. The first night was horrible; people being seasick could be heard from everywhere on the ship. Even though he had never been on a ship before, he didn't seem to have that problem. One small mercy, he thought. The rest of the night passed without a flaw, unless you counted the smell of fish.
The next morning, he started working out as best as he could. All he knew was being an assassin, and he was good at it, so if that's how he would earn his living, then so be it. But he had to be in good shape. The days blurred together. He woke up, trained as best as he could, ate the stale bread and fish they could get, and spent the day just contemplating. Sometimes people would brave themselves to talk to him, but nothing was really said.
Characters belong to Sarah J. Maas, but the story is mine. I will try my best to finish it but please have patience. If you like it please let me know!!
Also, please ignore any plotholes with the original story, after all it is a fanfiction.
