Nehemia
Nehemia didn't know what to do, what to say. It seemed that this was a conversation between Elen-Aelin, because she was Aelin, Queen of Terrassen right now, and Sam. She knew it wouldn't have been easy for any of them, to see each other after so long, after Sam and her made their respective decisions. Nehemia could see why she was confused, why she would feel betrayed. Maybe she should've gone looking for her, tried to find out what had happened to her friend, maybe she wouldn't have gotten here without knowing anything about what her life turned out.
"I'll make sure they give the two of you a room for the night, I can't think right now. We will talk about everything tomorrow at breakfast." Aelin said, though the tone in her voice told her it wasn't really a request, it was a Queen's order.
While a guard walked them to a room not far from Aelin's, Nehemia could feel her head spinning. She hadn't thought about Aelin or her family in so long. She left and did her best to forget, she never planned to come back. She forgot her own family, it was the only way she could live with herself. But maybe she shoul've looked for them. She should've found out if they were alive, if they were well, how much toll did the war give them without her. And now, she was in the same palace as her father and she couldn't bring herself to ask about him or go look for him. Or maybe it wasn't her father, maybe it was Kharis, her brother. What if something had happened to her father, to her parents while she was away? What if by saving the world she had doomed them?
When the guard left them at their room, she told Sam all her questions, all her doubts. Instead of telling her they would find out tomorrow and just calming her down, he told her they should go look for him. "The palace was well guarded from the outside, but Royals who are at peace with one another have no need for so many guards on the inside. There are probably the usual patrols and a few more guards around, but not that many. We could sneak around the castle and find him."
To her surprise she agreed with Sam. She had always been a rule follower, she was a princess after all, she couldn't risk being anything but obedient.
"Let's make a plan then." Said Sam.
-----
Their plan had been simple, Sam had asked for every detail Nehemia could remember from her time in the castle and made some assumptions about where each Royal would be. "Your father probably won't be anywhere near your old room, it's just plain politics. Aelin's room, as you said, is the same as it was before, and you pointed out a few rooms that were used in the competition, so that leaves only tow wings of the castle and since one of them is the Royal family's then it is safe to assume the other one will have your father's and the other royals'. The only thing left to figure out is which one is whose. The guards will probably give us a clue, but many Royals think so highly of themselves that they don't let their guards guard them at night. Don't think your father would let his guard down in this castle though."
Sam had been right, the only room with more than one guard, was the one form Ellywe. She didn't dare to reveal herself to them, not before her parents and her brothers knew. Maybe not even then. She didn't know how she would even tell her father. She couldn't just appear there without an explanation or without preparing him for it before.
They were hiding in the corner of the hallway waiting. Waiting until Nehemia managed to talk herself into facing her father. She hoped it wouldn't be as difficult as it was with Aelin, after all he had not seen the body that took her place She was about to turn back with Sam and go to their rooms when the door opened. Her father came out and the guards started walking behind him. He was turning towards the hallway that led to the library when Nehemia got over the shock of seeing him again. He looked almost the same as he had the last time she saw him, right before she left for Adarland, only with a few more wrinkles and more white in his hair than before, but she could still see her father as she always had. They followed until they got to the library, her father entered with only two guards and the other four stayed outside.
Sam seemed ready to find his way inside, but Nehemia couldn't move, she wasn't sure if she should. She could see that the only way to get past the guards was to face them, and she also knew they would recognize her. She was the Princess, and this were her father's guards, and if she was right, they were the same guards that had always been guarding him. When Sam saw that she was doubting, he pulled her into the hallway and whispered "Whatever you choose, I'll be next to you. If it means attacking the guards so you can get in without being seen. If you want to run straight into them, I'll also be there. And if you want to run away, I'll also be next to you. Whatever you want to do, I'll be there." Nehemia kissed him and answered. "Can you knock them out without being seen? Or distract them? Just... Don't hurt them. They are my father's guards, they've been with him since I can remember and they're good people."
"I'll do it. Be ready."
Before Nehemia could react, the four guards were on the floor. There was no blood and their chests were moving, so they were fine. She was surprised, she had never seen Sam in action, she had known he could do that, but seeing it was another thing. Sam opened the door very slowly and silently, probably checking to see where her father and the other guards were. Sam made a move with his hand as if telling her to come closer. She did and together they entered the library.
------------------------------
Not sure if it's the longest chapter I've written but I'm proud of how long it came. I'm getting better at this and I hope I can make chapters this long or longer still. I hope you like Nehemia and Sam (still need a ship name though). I'm loving making their relationship from out of nowhere. And them meeting the people from their past? I find it really fun and hope you do to.
Let me know if you like it or not, if you have any suggestions or anything you want to see, including any pov you might like. (I already know the ending, but a lot of stuff can happen in between.)
