"It's been an hour, and she still hasn't come back," Dazai mumbled, glancing at the clock for the hundredth time.

"Girls take their time to get ready, Dazai. You wouldn't know it," Yosano said, not looking up from her medical tools.

"But I wanted to ask her if she would commit a double suicide with me," Dazai groaned, sinking into his chair dramatically.

Atsushi, looking puzzled, joined the conversation. "Who are you guys talking about?"

"Yeah, I don't get it either," Tanizaki added, just as confused.

Dazai sighed, realizing they hadn't been filled in. "Oh, you guys don't know, right? What actually happened is..."

He explained the entire situation, skillfully omitting the part about her ability. Only he, Yosano, the President, and Ranpo knew the full extent of her powers. It was safer that way; the fewer people who knew, the better.

"Wait, so she fought against the Port Mafia without any ability?" Tanizaki asked, eyes wide with shock.

"Yeah, but she couldn't fight entirely and ended up unconscious. So we brought her here," Dazai replied nonchalantly.

"But saving a girl without even knowing her and trying to fight against the enemies... aren't those the qualities required to join the Armed Detective Agency?" Atsushi pondered aloud.

"That's what I thought," Dazai replied, "but she just came to Yokohama for a trip with her friends. She doesn't live here, and she's a student. I doubt she'd quit her studies and leave her city to join us."

Kunikida, who had been listening in, finally spoke up. "Moreover, we can't let anyone join the agency just like that. It requires some minimum qualifications, like having an ability to fight. She may be a good person, but she doesn't have any special ability. Even though she showed bravery, we can't let weak people join just because they're good."

"Kunikida, as always, not deviating from his ideals," Dazai said with a smirk. "But she did show bravery, which is more than enough to get into the agency," Dazai argued.

Kunikida just nodded, acknowledging Dazai's point but staying firm in his beliefs.

Yosano cut through the debate. "Guys, stop your discussions. Can anyone go check on her? It's too late, and she hasn't come back yet."

"I'll go!" Dazai shouted with excitement, springing up, but was immediately pushed back into his chair by Kunikida.

"You're not going anywhere. Are you trying to ditch work again?" Kunikida barked.

"No, Kunikida! I just wanted to check on our guest," Dazai protested.

"Atsushi, go check on her," Kunikida ordered. He turned to Dazai, adding, "And you, no ditching work. You haven't even started."

"Aww," Dazai pouted, slumping back.

"I'll go check on her," Atsushi said, heading towards Yosano's room.

Atsushi's POV

Atsushi reached Yosano's room and knocked on the door. No reply. He knocked again, twice, thrice—still no reply. "Kinoshita-san, are you okay? I'm Atsushi from the agency. I came to check on you," he called out. Silence.

"I'm coming inside," he announced, pushing the door open. The room was empty. He searched every corner but found no trace of her. Finally, his eyes landed on a note on the table.

He picked it up and read aloud: "Thank you for the help, agency. I am very grateful for the kindness you showed me. My friend has come to pick me up, so I had to go. Sorry for not being able to thank you in person, but again, thank you for helping me. Regards, Akane Kinoshita."

Shock washed over Atsushi. He rushed back to the agency and handed the note to Kunikida.

Agency POV

The room fell silent as everyone read the note. Dazai leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face.

"Well, it seems our guest has slipped away," he said with a hint of amusement. "Quite the mysterious one, isn't she?"

Yosano sighed. "She was really gone for that long to just leave a note?"

Kunikida frowned. "We need to be more careful. If the Port Mafia catches wind of this, they'll come after her."

"She has her reasons," Dazai said, a rare serious note in his voice knowing about her ability. "We just need to find her before they do."

Y/N's POV

"Explain yourself," Ayya demanded as she drove us away from the agency.

"Huh?" I responded, trying to gather my thoughts. Ayya had picked me up in her car, and now we were heading back to our dorm near the college.

"How did you get yourself into that situation? In the call, you just said you were at the agency. How did you end up there?" Ayya barked.

"Wait, girl, patience. Calm down, I'll explain everything." I recounted the events of the previous night—the fight with the Mafia, how they found me, and everything else.

"How many times did I tell you not to use your ability when you can't control it? You said yourself you hate your ability and it gives you nightmares from your childhood," Ayya shouted.

"I know, but there was no other choice. I had to," I replied defensively.

"You never learn from your lessons. What will you do if you meet any of the agency members randomly?" Ayya continued, still angry.

"I'll think about it when I get into that situation. Moreover, I lied to them about my name, place, everything. I don't think they will find me," I said, feeling a bit more relaxed now that I had escaped the agency.

"You are never gonna change, huh?" Ayya said, irritated.

"Sorry, Ayya. I will be careful next time, for sure," I smiled, trying to ease the tension.

"I hope so, or else I'm gonna break your legs so you can't go anywhere," Ayya replied, trying to act rougher, but I could see the concern in her eyes.

We both laughed, and the tension eased.

"So, what about your crush, huh? What was his name, Toya?" Ayya asked, and I immediately blushed. Toya was my senior. I'd liked him for a year, but we had never really had a conversation beyond asking about subjects. It was more of a one-sided crush—I admired him a lot because he was tall, handsome, played sports, and was good at studies.

"You're blushing," Ayya teased, poking my cheeks.

"Stop it! I just admire him, okay? Because he's good at everything, nothing more. And you, focus on the driving," I said, trying to divert the topic.

"Okay, okay, girl, keep it to yourself. I won't interfere," Ayya laughed.

Ayya had always been my best friend since high school. Though we had been friends for only three years, we had a very close bond. She acted like my big sister, correcting everything I did. I was very grateful to have such an amazing friend.

"Finally, we're here. Freshen up and forget about everything. Let's order something to eat and binge-watch a series," Ayya suggested, to which I nodded happily.

I hoped the detective agency wouldn't interfere with me after thinking my ability was useless. Moreover, I had lied to them about my name and address, so even if they tried to find me, they wouldn't find anything. Right?
