"Do you think she's okay?" asked a feeble woman's voice.
"I hope so! Let me check her pulse!" a nervous boy chittered back.
I tried to open my eyes, but my head was throbbing painfully. What happened? I wondered. I felt cool hands lift my wrist. A thumb slid against it and rested there for a few seconds.
"She has a pulse and she looks like she's breathing okay. Maybe we should bring her inside. The heat isn't helping."
"Good idea."
I felt a pair of strong arms lift me up. Once more, I tried to open my eyes. Still my head bit back. Something was wrong. These voices didn't sound normal. I couldn't place what it was, but there was definitely some serious offness.
The person who was carrying me set me down on a couch, adjusting the pillow so that I would be comfortable.
"I'll get a cool cloth for her. She feels hot."
Moments later, a chilled washcloth was placed gently on my forehead. Finally, my headache died down a bit. I peeked one eye open. Then the other.
Two people with green hair peered down at me anxiously. One of them was a sweet-faced boy who looked around my age, and the other was an older woman with round cheeks, maybe his mom.
The boy cleared his throat. "Hello! My English is not good! Are you okay?"
(A.N: From this point on, any quotes spoken in English by the characters will be in bold.)
Suddenly, it struck me why the voices had sounded weird to me before. These people were Japanese. I'd understood them thanks to my grandmother who had taught me her language.
My heart quivered. Where the heck am I? I felt my hands begin to shake.
The woman leaned a bit closer, eyes full of concern.
Calm down, I told myself. I need to figure out what's going on. And anyway, I don't feel like these people are a threat.
I licked my lips and responded in my broken Japanese, "I'm okay, just a little dizzy. Can you tell me how I got here?"
They looked slightly surprised, but the boy nodded. "You suddenly appeared on the road right as me and my mom were leaving our house. You were passed out, so we brought you in here to make sure you were alright."
"Did you lose control of your quirk?" asked his mother. "Will it happen again?"
I paused. For some reason, my appearance on their street from thin air hadn't surprised them. I wasn't really sure what this meant.
"Quirk?" I wondered.
"Oh dear, you must've hit your head very hard," she whispered.
"Where am I?" I asked.
