The nightmares started soon after that day at the police station.
At first they were hard to describe. Just colorful images painted with some unshakeable sense of fear. Noises that felt mixed up and cacophonous that clouded my mind and kept me from thinking.
I would wake up in Izuku's bed with a cold sweat, my spider senses vibrating painfully in my skull.
Then they slowly got more vivid. I would see brief pictures. My parents screaming. A man with dark hair and even darker eyes. Spiders crawling everywhere. But worst of all... the image that was by far the most painful to look at...
My best friend.
Peter Parker.
His body broken and bleeding.
His head split open.
Dead and cold on a sidewalk.
And me, hovering over him.
'It's my fault,' Dream-Me would whisper. 'Oh, Peter...'
I would be lying if I said the paranoia wasn't getting to me.
The first couple days at the Midoriya house I felt fine.
I'd been home alone for most of the day, Izuku being at school and Inko working at her library job.
I'd used the opportunity to research what I could about quirks, but I soon realized that it was quite different from my experience.
Obviously quirks had to do with genetics. You were born with it, and it often had something to do with inheritance from your parents.
Just like in my own universe, there was no such existing case as mine of someone developing superhuman abilities from an animal bite. Although a slightly frustrating fact, it hadn't surprised me at all. It seemed I was an anomaly no matter what universe I was in.
Around a week later, Inko got me a part-time job, so I started going to the library to with her in the mornings. It was there that she told me about Izuku being quirkless.
"Yes, it's always been an area of sensitivity for him," she said, stacking books on a shelf during my employee training. "He always wanted to be a hero when he was little. He's had his eyes set on going to UA since forever."
"UA?"
"Yes, it's a highschool famous for its hero course. It's where people go to get the qualifications they need to become pro heroes. There are other schools like it, but UA is by far the most popular and competitive. Its acceptance rate last year was less than one in three hundred."
"Wow, that's crazy," I muttered. "So there's whole schools dedicated to mastering quirks?"
"Yep," Inko said. "Which is why I don't understand how Izuku thinks he can get in since he doesn't have a quirk. It worries me, but he tells me to have faith in him. And I do. I think he has a pure heart, and that it's going to get him places in life."
