"A quirk assessment test!?" everyone asked, confused.

I grinned. Nice. This would be a fun chance to get a read on some quirks and see if any of them could be useful to me.

Aizawa pressed his lips together. "If you're going to become a hero, you don't have time for leisurely events like orientation. UA's selling point is how unrestricted its school traditions are. That's also how the teachers run their classes."

My classmates murmured anxiously amongst themselves. Izuku gave me a nervous glance.

"Hey, it's going to be fine," I said. "I got your back."

"You kids have been doing these too since junior high, right?" he held up a screen. "Physical fitness tests where you weren't allowed to use your quirk." He rolled his eyes. "It's irrational. Anyway. We had a tie for the practical exam, right? Lee and Bakugo."

It had taken me a while to figure out that Kacchan and Bakugo were the same person. I thought back to earlier, when Izuku had explained it to me on the way to school, and I'd finally asked him the question that had been pounding at my brain ever since our encounter with the hothead in the park.

"So, what's his deal anyway?" I wondered. "Kacchan, Bakugo, whatever?"

Izuku just shrugged. "He hates me."

"Well, yeah, I figured that much out. The question is why?"

"I don't know. I guess because I'm weaker than him? He's always been a little vague on the subject," Izuku muttered. "Something to do with me looking down on him? Also he hates that I got into UA."

"That's it? There's gotta be some deeper reason than just that. I mean he seriously hates you. He's so on edge around us all the time. It even crossed my mind that he has a crush on you and is jealous of me cuz he thinks we're involved or something," I mused.

"W-what? No! It's not like that at all! Kacchan--I'm--" Izuku spluttered.

"Chill, I ruled that possibility out. I don't think that's the case, but I'm just saying that hate doesn't happen for no reason. I don't know why, but I get the feeling that there's some hurt behind it." I squinted my eyes at him. "You sure you didn't do something to the guy?"

"I didn't!"

"Okay. I believe you. Anyway, the way he treats you is out of line. If we're going to be in the same class as him, then I'm going to try and get him to dial it down."

I refocused my attention on Aizawa, shaking myself out of the memory.

I could feel Bakugo's eyes boring into my side. Sheesh. Maybe my comment earlier in the classroom had been a little too mean? You'd think someone as rude as him could take a joke, but maybe he's sensitive.

"Tch. So what if we tied?" he growled at our teacher.

"Well one of you can demonstrate the exercise. I want to know your farthest softball throw. I guess I should pick Lee since she scored higher over--"
