"ji-eun!" jung wooyoung exclaimed.
he'd never been so relieved to see her before, which said a lot about his mental state after only a few minutes in this hellscape.
ji-eun, whose midnight-black hair was now tied half-up, seemed as shaken as him. her narrow, deep-red eyes surveyed their surroundings. even for a laid-back and tough woman like her, this world was too much to take in.
"how did you find me here?" wooyoung continued, helplessly clasping her hands in his. "i lost contact with you just as i was leaving town. i'm not sure what happened, but i ended up here, and this isn't a dream, right? i'm not going crazy, right?"
"oh, if this is a dream, then please wake me up already," ji-eun muttered, barely paying attention to the conversation. she let go of wooyoung's hand and stepped forward, her boots flattening the grass she walked on.
"i went up to the point where i lost signal with you and continued down that road," ji-eun explained, shoving her hand into the pocket of her black cargo pants. "it was a long drive, and i spotted you in this garden. i've got to say, you really stand out here. everything here is so over the top. and what's that thing in the sky?"
ji-eun shielded her eyes from the enormous ball of light hovering light-years above them. wooyoung sighed to himself. if it weren't for ji-eun's unrivalled skill of extreme precision and 20/20 vision as the lead in a crime/action script, wooyoung would have no idea how long he would be lost here, unsure whether to continue his search for his target or simply turn back and go home.
"i don't know," wooyoung replied, following her gaze. "but it's been there since i arrived."
"forget that," she said again, walking up to him until they were at a safe distance where they could speak without their words spilling out and falling on others' ears. "there's something more important we should talk about. the last signal i received from you matches the last signal i received from our target. both were by the warehouse near the docks, where you would have ended up if you had taken the right turn. however, there's a reason why i've also lost our target's signal." she moved closer, her mouth inches away from wooyoung's ear, whispering, "we have reason to believe that our target is here."
wooyoung's blood went cold. here? in this place full of pink hearts and shitty music? it made absolutely no sense, but the way ji-eun's eyes gleamed with predatory focus convinced him to believe her. before he could ask any further questions, a familiar stranger decided to interrupt their conversation.
"excuse me."
the syrupy, melody-like voice that wooyoung had heard a little too much for the day belonged to the blue varsity jacket fellow. however, wooyoung was not in the mood for jokes and games. he glared at choi san, unable to control his agitation, which overflowed like a pot of boiling milk.
wooyoung, a crime & action script lead, possessed a diverse set of skills. one such skill was the ability to send chills down his opponents' spines with a single glare. this method, while overdone and dramatic, worked every time. it made his opponents freeze in their tracks, as if a ghost had passed through their skin and bones.
