"slice of life?" wooyoung echoed ji-eun's words.

san, who was sitting in the backseat of ji-eun's car next to hwayoung, furrowed his brows, crossing his arms in deep thought. "what kind of place is that?" he asked, his tone tinged with confusion and curiosity.

"i have no idea," ji-eun responded with a light chuckle, one arm casually resting against the armrest, while the other hand tapped rhythmically against the steering wheel. she glanced at san through the rearview mirror, an amused glint in her eyes. "sounds weird, doesn't it?"

"yeah," san agreed without hesitation, his expression serious as he pondered the unfamiliar term. "how did you two even find out about it?"

"we saw it on the notice board in the town square," hwayoung declared, her voice brimming with excitement. she leaned forward, her enthusiasm evident in the way she grinned from ear to ear. "it's all everyone's talking about."

the idea of a new world opening was something san had never considered before.

up until now, he had believed that the worlds of romance and action were the only genres in the nexus, even though cedric had hinted at the existence of other genres. the thought of a new genre emerging seemed impossible. the action and romance worlds were perfect contrasts of each other, two extremes that defined the boundaries of their universe.

where could there possibly be room for another world to exist? what would this 'slice of life' genre even consist of? the very concept felt absurd, as if all possible traits had already been claimed by the two dominant genres.

"this is our target's work, by the way," ji-eun remarked nonchalantly, glancing at wooyoung as if her words were nothing more than casual conversation, before refocusing on the road ahead. "the barrier-breaking target."

"our target?!" wooyoung sat up straight. "how?!"

ji-eun laughed. how could she drop such earth-shattering news without so much as a blink of an eye?

san's thoughts drifted back to their target—the elusive, nameless figure who had slipped through wooyoung's fingers time and time again. this man had somehow managed to not only break the barriers between worlds but also form a relationship and get married to a woman from the romance world in what felt like no time at all.

yet, despite the trouble he caused for wooyoung, san had to admit that he owed a lot to this man. it was because of him that he had met wooyoung in the first place. or maybe, just maybe, wooyoung would have eventually stumbled into the romance world even if the barriers hadn't been broken. but would he have met choi san? and if he had, would their paths have crossed in the same way?

"he went to seraphine's place to throw a fit," ji-eun explained, crossing her arms casually, her relaxed posture making it seem like she was just recounting a mundane story. neither of her hands were on the steering wheel—normally a cause for concern, but wooyoung seemed to trust her with stunts like these. "he basically forced her to change his character sketch so he wouldn't be a criminal anymore."
