THE GIRLS TRAIL HAD run cold, resulting in rick and daryl returning to camp empty handed. they'd stuck it out as long as they could, gutting walkers and following the trail the two left.

it wasn't easy going back, truth be told rick wanted to keep searching. in a selfish way he wanted to keep looking for his daughter, sophia being with her would be a plus.

blood stained his shirt, dirt and grim lingering on the white top. carols sob could be heard as the two men climbed up the hill, over the railing. "you didn't find her?" carol cried, lori wrapping the women in her arms. the group members drawing close to the two whom had finally returned. the walsh boy jogged over, half expecting colette to be with them, ready to give the girl an ear full. his face dropping at ricks face, and the lack of colette's presence.

rick looked down, his hands on his hips as he slowly met carols eyes, glancing to his wife holding onto carol who had tears streaming down her face. "she's twelve!" carol cried, fearing the worst for her daughter. rick looked to his feet, nodding at carols words. "she can't be out there by herself!" carol added, loris arms tightening around her. "cole's with her" lee tried to reassure the women, he knew colette well enough to know she'd be able to keep them safe.

she was fast, lee just prayed she'd be fast enough to out run a walker with sophia. "why would you leave them by themselves! our daughters are missing because you left them!" carol cried out, glaring at rick who's face fell even more. guilt eating him alive, his daughter was missing. he'd been blaming himself since they got back to the tree hole where the two girls were supposed to be.

shane stepped in, looking to carol. "he did what he had to do" shane told the women, lori releasing carol, wiping at her own tear stained cheeks. her eyes full of salty tears, she'd done her best trying to hide the worry from carl. not wanting to scare the boy, but now it had all broken.

THE SUN HAD slowly risen, casting its golden light onto them. washing away the darkness the monsters hid within.

heating the forest, the cool crisp air from early dawn now gone. instead it replaced it with the burning heat, burning at their skin.

the sweat that covered the girls forehead slowly dripped down her temple, grunts leaving her lips as she placed the dirt back. exhaustion in her bones as she buried the man's body. she hadn't slept a wink of sleep the night prior, to afraid to sleep.

worried if she slept the dead would find them, so she stayed awake. snooping through the man's pack in the tent. going through the belongings he had, looking within his wallet at the picture of the man with his wife and child. the small newborn being cradled in his wife's arms.
