SLEEP WASNT A FRIEND, it had proved that to the grimes girl. not bothering to visit the girl that night, rather sleep plagued her dreams, turning them into nightmares, forcing her to relive the memories from the night prior. she could hear the screams and cries for help, smell the metallic blood that lingered in the air everywhere she went. she couldn't sleep, only tossing and turning in her bed until the early morning. it was frustrating, all she'd wanted to do what sleep. allow her mind and her body a break from the real world. she'd gotten roughly three hours of sleep the night, the time broken up throughout the night.

she couldn't count how many times she'd jolted awake, with sweat covering her skin and her hand covering her mouth to stifle her heavy breaths. each nightmare was always the same, always consisting of her family being taken from her. the dead had come once more, none of them had been quick enough to fight back. her legs were frozen in place, eyes wide and messy sobs leaving her lips, yet the dead ignored her. feasting on her family while she was forced to watch, her body unable to move from where she'd stood. it was a horrid sight, one that made her stomach churn as she stared blankly at the tent roof. dark bags beneath her eyes and her skin a soft pale color.

the sun had barley made an appearance when the girl slowly rose from her cot. she quietly pulled on her converse, her fingers working to tie the laces. her father had slipped out of the tent thirty minutes prior, attempting to not wake his sleeping family, and it would've proved to be successful if natalia hadn't already been awake. her hands worked to tug on the grey hoodie she owned, her last name printed in bold letters on the back. it was the hoodie she'd gotten her freshmen year of high school when she'd made her varsity soccer team. she hadn't bothered to get a new one since the first one she had gotten still fit well. she quietly slipped out of the tent, being sure to quietly zip the flap shut as she sucked in a breath of the fresh morning air.

her eyes squinted as she turned, the morning sun rise lighting up the city of atlanta. her eyes found her father, the grimes man sat atop a rock looking over the rundown city, a walkie close to his mouth as he spoke into the hand held radio. natalia wrapped her arms around herself as she neared her father, without uttering a word she sat down beside him. she brought her knees to her chest, arms wrapping tightly around her legs as she rested her chin upon her knees. she looked over the burnt and bombed city, wondering if anyone remained living within the city or if it truly did belong to the dead now. she supposed the world belonged to the dead, there had to be a whole lot more walkers then there was people. "g'morning." rick softly broke the silence, glancing to the girl who smiled softly in return. a crease between her brows as she squinted.

rick gave his daughter a confused stare, raising his brow as to silently as the girl what she was doing awake so early. normally it was a fight to even get the girl out of bed, there had been plenty of arguments between her and rick when it came to waking up for school. yet by the time she was dressed and ready to leave she was in a perfectly happy mood, the two had deemed whatever she said when being woken up didn't mean anything and shouldn't be taken to heart. "what're you doing up so early?" he questioned the girl who pursed her lips, tilting her head her eyes not leaving the crumbling city. she could only shrug, not wanting to dwell on her nightmares any longer then she already had been. "i hate that you left." natalia mumbled, her voice barley above a whisper, rick let out a heavy sigh at the girls words.

he nodded, running a hand through his hair as he turned his attention to the city of atlanta. the teen pushed her hair behind her ears before wrapping her arms around her legs once more. the ends of her hoodie sleeves covered her hands. "i don't blame you for what happened. i just hate that you left." she clarified, not wanting her father to feel guilty for the life's that had been lost the day prior. she didn't believe anyone deserved to feel that type of guilt, and she didn't want to be the reason her father did feel it. the grimes man nodded slowly, he lightly shook his head at the girl. "i hate it because i didn't know if you were come back." she mumbled softly, her voice not daring to raise in fear that it would crack and reveal the true fear she felt.
