The three girls make their way back to Max's home. They all get ready for bed and curl up in Max's bed. Max reaches under her bed and pulls out two comics.
"Which one?" Max asks El.
"I don't know.." She mumbles.
The two girls stare at her.
"Hey, there's nothing to worry about anymore okay?"
"He seemed wrong, Billy." El whispers.
"Wrong is kinda his default but it's nice to know he's not a murderer, cause that would've totally sucked."
Max jokes.
Sage takes El's hand.
"It's okay. Heather had a fever so she took a cold bath- I don't know where that blood came from but we saw her and she was okay."
Sage says also trying to comfort herself along with her sister.
El doesn't reply but points at one of the comics.
"Who is that."
Max and Sage exchange a look and Sage groans.
"See this is why you can't just hang out with Mike all the time." Max picks up the comic.
"This is Wonder Woman."
The girls lay their reading comics until they fall asleep.
The next morning,
The girls wake up to Lucas' calls on the walkie, Sage throws the comic at it that had been left on the side table from the night before.
Max eventually grabs the walkie.
"Max do you copy? This is a code red!"
"Shut up!"
Max scoffs turning the walkie off and turning around trying to fall back to sleep until the phone rings.
Max storms out of bed and snatches the phone.
"I'm sleeping go away!"
She doesn't place the phone back down instead she listens, Sage and El sit up and stare at her.
She moves the phone away from her ear and stares at the two girls.
"What did he say?"
"It was Mike. We need to go."
They quickly get dressed and cycle over to Mike's house.
"I didn't think it was anything at first, I think I just didn't want to believe it. The first time I felt it was at the movies."
Will states and Sage stares at him, she knew she felt something too.
"The power went out that night.." Mike remembers.
"Then I felt it again out on the hill then yesterday outside castle Byers."
"What does it feel like?" Max asks.
"Like everything in your body is sinking all at once, your body goes cold and you can't breathe. I always felt it when he was close.."
"The mind flayer.." Sage whispers.
"Say and I closed the gate." El states.
"I know but, maybe it never left. That part my mom got out of me, maybe we locked it in our world- in Hawkins."
Will explains.
"I don't understand- the demodogs died when El closed the gate. If the brain dies the body dies."
Max replies.
"We need to assume the worst, the mind flayer is back."
Mike says.
"If he is, he'd want to attach himself to someone again."
The group goes silent.
"What if he attached himself to Billy."
Sage breaks the silence.
"How can we tell?"
They quickly leave the house and cycle to the pool where they hide behind cars watching Billy on duty.
"He seems pretty normal to me but, how many times have you seen him with a shirt on?" Lucas asks.
"It's definitely weird, plus he was in a tub with ice- the mind flayer likes it cold."
Mike states.
"But he's lounging at the pool, that's the least mind flayer thing ever." Max argues.
"But the mind flayer only used me when he needed me, we need to find out if he's the host." Will adds.
Mike beckons the boys away.
"I have an idea boys only!"
"Seriously?" Sage exclaims.
"Trust me!"
Max rolls her eyes and they wait around for the them to make their plan.
The boys come back and explain what they have come up with, they're going to wait until everyone leave and then trap him in the sauna- they'll find out if he is the host and if he is, they'll burn it out of him. They gather up all the supplies they'll need and wait until the pool is closed.
Mike mocks Billy calling out his name childly while the sisters wait ready for him to step into the sauna. When he does they sneak up behind him and blast him into the back of the sauna. The other lock the door and turn up the sauna.
Billy bangs on the window.
"Max! Let me out of here!"
His voice echoes as he screams at them.
He sits down on the floor and starts to sob.
"It's not my fault it's not my fault!"
Max slowly approaches the door and places his hand on the door.
Sage tries to get into his mind and she can't.
Billy pleads to be let out.
"Max, get away from the door."
"Max move!"
Sage yells pulling her away just as the window smashes.
Lucas hits him with his rock and slingshot and he falls to the floor.
The lights start to flicker and Billy's veins turn black as he starts to roar.
He runs at the door until it flies open and he stands facing a he group.
Eleven throws the dumbbell at him while Sage pushes him against the wall, he pushes the bell off and grabs El's neck.
Sage doesn't hesitate to tackle him to the floor and strangles him with her mind, he grabs her leg and throws her at the wall. Eleven stands back up and blasts him through the brick wall, they watch him run away as Max and Lucas rush to Sage's aid. They pull her up while Mike comforts Eleven.
The Party quickly make their way back to the back to the basement where they all collapse of exhaustion on the couches.
I'm finally back in the swing of things and I'm motivated to write so I'll try upload one a day!!
