Buckle Up!!
Sage leaned up against the wall, breathing heavily as Max stared at the wall terrifed, she kept repeating to the others that she saw a Grandfather clock against the wall... which was bare. Sage believed her best friend, but that's what terrified her. This Vecna bastard had Max on his list, he wasn't going to lay a hand on her...
Sage's body shook with fear as a hand was placed on her shoulder, she looked up to lock eyes with Robin.
"You're okay kid." She says softly, leading her away and back into the Counselors Office.
"Fred and Chrissy were having headaches... nightmares, trouble sleeping and then they started hallucinating- the visions got worse and worse until everything ended. Chrissy's headaches started a week ago, Fred's six days... I have been having them for five days- I have no idea how long I have-"
Sage couldn't handle listening anymore, so she jumped off the chair she was sharing with Max and stormed out to the front of the school, Nancy and Steve at her heel.
"Where the hell are you going?" Nancy yells.
"I'm going to kill that fucking bitch, so nobody ever has to deal with this again!" Sage exclaims.
"Woah, Say. We do this together... it's way to dangerous and you don't even have a plan-" Steve splutters.
"A vision of Billy Hargrove has been haunting me for months, he is always there watching me- look he is there!" Sage points to the trees frantically.
"That sick bastard has been watching me too- I may not be one of his 'chosen' but he knows everything I am doing and thinking... I feel a gate, somewhere so I am going to find it and I will get to him and kill him- even if it kills me too!" Sage continues, tears and sweat covering her pale face.
"Sage- I know you feel like the world has come crashing down on you but you will get through this-" Nancy starts.
"No! No Nance, from the day I was born my life has had some sort of torture- I lived in a lab and was experimented on for twelve years, I escape and have demogorans chasing me, I didn't even have a home until my father took me in and then he died- my sister couldn't care less about me anymore... her fucking boyfriend overtakes her life and now my best-friend is about to die. I have nothing else to live for!" Sage shrieks.
Nancy's eyes soften as she stares at the distressed girl, Sage was a little sister to her- from the moment she started playing D&D in her basement... she was a happy little girl- even when her world was falling apart, she tried to be happy. Sage was too kind of a girl to be going through any of this, she doesn't deserve it.
She took a step forwards to hold her but Sage pushes her away, Nancy was pushed back roughly and Sage barely touched her. Nancy frantically turns to Steve, who had tears falling down his cheeks.
"No. I will not stand here and watch you throw away your life Sage! You deserve better, god you deserve the world- I was this asshole who hated everything and everyone, then I met you and I remember how sassy and confident you were and how you truly made me laugh- you made me a better man Say, I'm sure a lot of people can say the same, we are going to save Max- but we are doing it together."
Sage removes her hands from her face and stares at Steve and Nancy, she lets out another sob before falling to the floor, the two joined her moments later and held her as she cried. Moments later, Max walks out of the school and runs to her blonde best friend, the two hold each other as they cry into each others arms.

Sage sits curled up on the edge of the couch, draining out Dustin, Lucas and Steves discussion on Victor Creel. She had her eyes on Max who was frantically writing, neither of them slept the entire night.
"I know you guys are staring." Max finally speaks.
"What? Just hanging out." The boys mutter, Sage stays silent.
Max stands up and walks over to the sofas, she hands each of them a letter. Sage runs her finger across her name and stares back up at Max.
"Give these to Mike, Will and El." Max nods at Sage and places two more letters in front of her.
"Don't open them now, it's a fail-safe if things don't work out." Max starts.
Sage knew Max well enough not to try reassure her, she knew that from the night they were in Joyce's home waiting as Will acted as a spy for the mind-flayer.
Max forced Steve to drive her to East Hawkins, they pulled up at the Graveyard- Max and Sage parted ways, Sage went over to her fathers grave... it wasn't real of course- because his body has disintegrated but it was just for respect. She hadn't seen it since before she moved to California, it made her happy to see all the flowers people had laid for him, she took the spare moment to sit with him and talk.
She sat there all the way up until someone was shaking her shoulder, screaming into her ear.
"It's Max!" Dustin was yelling.
Sage has never ran as fast towards Billy's Grave, he was standing over it- closer than he's ever been. But she ignored it, she droned out Lucas and Steve's screams as they shook her. Her hands shook as she pulled Max's freckly hand from under her and squeezed it, her eyes locked shut. She felt the pain through her body again, the same pain she felt every time she tried to use her powers, but this time she embraced it- her body felt as hot as fire as she roared and fell into Max's mind, it was exactly like the upside down- just like her nightmares. She saw him, the moment she laid eyes on the slimy tall creature she knew it was Vecna.
"There is nothing you can do, Seven. Max is mine." He growled.
"Max, Run!" Sage shrieked as she stood face to face with Vecna.
"I always knew you were special... different to the others, you can join me Seven... we can be unstoppable." Vecna offered.
"I'd rather rot in hell." Sage spits.
Sage threw her hands out towards Vecna, but he was gone... and Max was nowhere to be found, Sage bit her lip tightly as she concentrated on getting back to Max. She reopened her eyes and squinted at the red cloud she was standing in, she started to sprint again as she saw Max tied up and Vecna's hand reaching out.
"Get the fuck away from her!" Sage screamed as she threw her hands up and Vecna flew into the side of a tree.
"Don't worry Seven... you are next." Vecna says standing again, unharmed.
Sage continues to send hits at him until he raises a hand and she flies backwards, hitting her head on a rock, vines held her arms and legs together- every time she tore them off they came back. All of a sudden, 'Running Up That Hill' one of the girls favourite songs to listen to, started blasting into their ears. Max has a moment of pure confusion on her face before the world started to open up behind them. Steve, Dustin and Lucas all screaming their names frantically, begging for the girls to escape from their trance- nobody could live with themselves if they lost both girls.
A wave of power overcame Sage as Vecna's claw covered Max's face, she saw in the corner of her eye how both girls started to rise... the vines suddenly burst into flames as Sage relived the best moments with her friends, the snowball, her adoption, skatingboarding, hanging out with Steve at Scoops, shopping with her sister and Max. Sage shook with power as she approached Vecna again, before she could try anything- Max cut into his side and was released from his grasp.
"Run!" Sage roars.
Sage turns to Vecna and with all her strength, she sends him flying far out into the distance- she takes her moment to follow Max, the two dodge the flying objects Vecna sent at them before eventually, Sage opened her eyes and found she was back at the graveyard. Lucas wrapped his arms around Max and Sage found herself in a tight embrace with both Dustin and Steve.
"You're okay, you're okay." Steve said over and over.
She kept her hand interlocked with Max's throughout this,
Her best-friend was safe.
