It was finally the day the candidates faced off. Jamal responded in the best way possible by embracing the nickname Toxic Turner and turning it into a positive in his new promo ad. I knew he had this one in the bag.

The principal started by asking what the school needs the most.

"School safety!" Ruby said, "We need more security guards and crosswalks."

"Because people can't see you over their dashboards?" Jamal said.

We all laughed. That was a pretty good one.

"And we need a dress code! So no one is targeted for wearing the wrong colors!"

"Dress code?" Jamal said, "Coming from the guy whose girlfriend dresses him?"

"Whipped!" Marcus Cole said as the other football guys laughed.

Nevertheless, Ruby continued, "And we need new textbooks! To reflect the true history of our country."

"Books?" Jamal said, "More homework, hmm? Some of us have other things and people to do!"

Was Jamal playing dirty? Yes. But it sold, so I looked at him and nodded.

"Let's talk about performance," Jamal said, "Or lack thereof. Freeridge needs someone who can stand up for them. Someone who can come through in a clutch. Someone who won't go soft in the heat of the moment. How is he gonna satisfy y'all when he had to bring in another girl to satisfy his own girlfriend?"

The whole crowd gasped.

"Who has a threesome and can't get some?"

I sighed and laughed nervously. That was crossing the line. I even told Jamal specifically not to say that in the campaign because it was too personal and private to bring up. Their business is their business alone. Just like I wouldn't want anyone knowing about the time I accidentally pissed on Jamal while we were doing it. Long story.

Ruby stomped over to Jamal, "I'm done. I concede!"

"You're not gonna wait for the vote?"

"No! You took my votes and my dignity. Congrats," Ruby said angrily before looking at me, "And you? I always knew you'd become the popular girl, but now you're just a mean bitch who blindly agrees with everything her boyfriend does instead of forming her own opinions. What happened to the two of you?!"

Ruby gave the folder in his hands to Jasmine and stomped away.

"We could've used this!" Jasmine said, giving Jamal the folder. He opened it, and it was a picture of Jamal sleeping with Juanita.

"Um, when was this?!" I said.

After practice, Jamal and I sat in my car in the parking lot.

"You wanna have a little quickie in the back?" he said.

I shook my head.

"Not even a handy? Or a blowie? Or I could show you a little love?"

I shook my head again, "Not in the mood."

"But you never turn that down!" he said, "What's going on? Is it Juanita? Because I can explain!"

"No! I don't give a fuck about Juanita!" I said, "It's about Ruby. Am I a mean bitch?"

"Of course not!" Jamal said, "He's just bitter because I'm better."

"I don't know," I said, "I feel bad. And I told you not to bring up the threesome thing. That was a low blow."
