Life on the frontier was harsh, and yet nowhere was this fact more untrue than the settlement of Farmsborough. Situated between the northern mountains and western planes, this small farming village was little more than a footnote on the map, having less than a hundred residents. Most of them belonged to one of the local farming families from whom the town got its name.

You, though, were not one of them, having been abandoned on the town abbey's doorstep as a baby and raised by the sisters until you were old enough to find work as a hired field hand. A humble job for an orphan of the church, one that saw you spending most of your days out and about tending to the Wilmont family's livestock. Today was hardly any different as you walked along the edge of your employer's pasture looking for their missing sheep.

Now it wasn't uncommon for a ewe to disappear only to be found grazing in the neighboring fields, but this was the third to go missing this week, and people were on edge in worry that it could be a predator moving into the area. Honestly, you weren't so sure that it wasn't just Old Ma'am Wilmont's daughter forgetting to latch pens again. The girl was a looker but had no head for the farming lifestyle.

Not that it mattered, because wolf or not, you were stuck working overtime wading through wild grass looking for the same sheep that kicked you in the shin last month. Annoyed, you sighed and raised a hand to block the sun out of your face as you took another glance around. It was almost evening, and you'd already checked the pastures three times with not so much as a hint as to where the wooly bitch had gone.

Y/n: Ughh, still no sign of them

Y/n: Ughh, still no sign of them. Hey Kohaku, any luck?!

Turning, you called out to your friend and immediately caught sight of them a bit further down in the field. Even from a distance the other girl's golden hair stood out, glittering in the sun as she bent down to check over the fences.
