I just ran into Winter, again. She thought sadly. Winter had given her a death stare, which made Moon feel nervous. What did I do wrong? She decided she would meet up with Qibli again, to tell him that his enchantment had been working, but she'd ask him to take it off for her. When she finally found Qibli in the library, she hugged him.
"Hey, what's with this sudden hug?" Qibli laughed.
"Your enchantment worked," Moon said happily. "But, I would like you to take it off for me. I think avoiding him would only make things worse."
Qibli's expression turned from happy to sad.
"Oh, Moon, I would love to, but I ran into Winter again before you came here. He told me things that you would not like to hear."
Moon wrinkled her snout. "I think I can take it. Give it your best shot."
Qibli picked up a book, opened it, and whispered to himself. A moment later, a projection of Qibli and Winter shot out of the book, making Moon wince.
"Listen. You can't continue treating her like this." The image showed Qibli saying.
"I can treat her however I like. I don't care about that Nightwing. She's useless and I have NO IDEA WHY I LIKED HER SHE IS SO STUPID." Winter demanded.
As the scene kept playing, Moon's feelings got worse every time Winter criticized her. Moon had the urge to cry, and then her feelings changed. She was more than mad. Moon had always thought Winter could change. She even thought he'd be the dragon for her. She was wrong. Again. Qibli may had animus magic, but at least he would treat her right. Moon clawed through the projection, and it vanished.
"I'm sorry. I tried to warn you," Qibli said weakly.
"I don't want him in my life," Moon whispered softly.
"I understand, but there are dragons like that everywhere." Qibli returned.
A part of Moon wanted Qibli to perhaps change Winter's personality. She would see Winter encouraging her, helping her, and never yelling at her. That was the Winter she had hoped for. Moon walked out of the library, bumping into Winter again. When Winter saw her, his expression turned to rage.
"Get out of my way," He roared. "Are all Nightwings this blind?"
Moon took a deep breath. She stood her ground. "You were in MY way, Winter. Please, just move aside."
For a second, Winter looked shocked.
"I don't want you in my life anymore, Winter. For all these days you have given me nothing but pain." Moon then said.
Winter stayed silent for a moment. He then furrowed his brow, then shot his frostbreath, which landed right on her wing.
Moon shrieked. Everything was so numb. She quickly ran away, crying for help. Where are the doctors? Is there anyone near me right now? She thought. There was always Qibli, who could fix her injury in seconds, but she still didn't trust animus magic. She spotted a colorful Rainwing and ran towards them. She realized it was Kinkajou and sighed in relief.
"Moon! There you are! Listen, about Winter-"
"Not now, Kinkajou," Moon interrupted.Kinkajou's eyes widened. "But-"
Moon pointed to her injured wing and begged her to go find a doctor. A while later, she was in a room, with Nightwings surrounding her, heating hot buckets of water to make the ice go away. Darkstalker entered the room, examining her wing.
"You know, you could always get an animus to help you."
Moon shook her head. "I don't want an animus to help me. I still don't trust it."
All the Nightwings around her grumbled and muttered as they could be resting right now for not Moon declining help from an animus. She could hear their thoughts and all of them had bitter ones. Darkstalker just shrugged and left her to rest. Moon then took a long nap. When she woke up, she saw Kinkajou. Moon yelped.
"Sorry! OK, the doctors let me in for a patient's visit." Kinkajou rushed.
Moon laughed. "It's all right, I'm glad you're here. Where's Qibli?"
"He left to go deal with Winter," Kinkajou said dismissively. "Speaking of Winter, listen. He was under a spell by Qibli. Winter never meant for any of this to happen. Qibli enchanted him to obey his every command."
Moon blinked, letting all of this process. No, it can't be, she thought. But... it makes sense. That's why Winter started acting up.
"But then, what about him being unable to speak?" She asked.
"I'm guessing that was also Qibli," Kinkajou explained. "I bet he was super duper mad at Winter for some reason."
Because I chose him over Qibil, she thought ruefully. She sat up quickly, which she probably shouldn't have done. Moon immediately felt pain surge through her body. She yelped again.
"All right visit is over," Moon's nurse said. "Now shoo!"
Kinkajou left, but before she did, she turned around, and said to Moon, "Think about it. Winter isn't as bad as you think."
