EXT. JABARILAND OUTSKIRTS, WAKANDAN MOUNTAINS - MORNING
[Nakia leads Shuri, Ramonda, and Ross through the bitter wind and harsh conditions.]
ROSS: So where are we going again?
NAKIA: We're taking the Heart-Shaped Herb to Jabriland.
ROSS: Heart-Shaped Herb, what is that?
"And he doesn't ask what Jabariland is?" Bucky asks.
"Nope," Gabrielle says as she shakes her head.
SHURI: It gives whoever takes it heightened abilities.
[Suddenly, there is a small crash behind them and a cough. They all turn around to see Gabrielle shivering.]
"God, I was so cold," Gabrielle says.
SHURI: Gabrielle!
[Shuri rushes over and shares her too-small blanket with her. Ross walks over and gives her the extra blanket Gabrielle had given him earlier.]
GABRIELLE: (quietly) Thank you.
RAMONDA: How did you find us?
GABRIELLE: You had nowhere else to go, so I knew you would come here. M'Baku would probably take you in.
[She weakly shrugs.]
GABRIELLE (CONT'D): I saw Nakia take a Heart-Shaped Herb before he burned them all.
[Ramonda and Shuri gasp.]
NAKIA: He actually did it?
[Gabrielle nods before standing up. The blanket covers the rifle strapped to her back.]
GABRIELLE: I put them out before the fire could do any real damage, but I doubt there is much left.
[They begin to walk again. Suddenly, they are surrounded by MEMBERS OF THE JABARI ARMY.]
NAKIA: Stay calm.
INT. M'BAKU'S THRONE ROOM, JABARILAND - NIGHT
[M'Baku stares down from his throne at Nakia, Romonda, and Shuri. He glowers at Ross and Gabrielle for a long beat, unnerving everyone. Gabrielle glowers right back at him. He finally turns to Ramonda.]
RAMONDA: My son was murdered in ritual combat.
M'BAKU: Were the odds fair?
NAKIA: Yes, but...
M'BAKU: So, it was less a murder than a defeat?
[This irks Shuri.]
SHURI: Do not rub our noses in it --
M'BAKU: Silence! I make the pronouncements here, girl.
ROSS: Look uh, your highness, the new King is a --
[M'Baku drowns out Ross' voice with loud barks. The surrounding Jabari follow suit. Gabrielle gives Ross a look.]
"For a CIA agent, he didn't have much common sense," T'Challa says.
"Thank you!" Gabrielle says. "I was trying to figure something out to say without it being really mean."
M'BAKU: You cannot talk. One more word and I will feed you to my children.
[Ross looks petrified until M'Baku winks at Ramonda. Gabrielle tries to stifle a smile.]
"You knew he was lying?" Shuri asks. Gabrielle nods.
