The faint light of the moon filtered through the thin curtains, casting a silvery glow across the small room. The quiet of the early morning was broken only by the soft rustle of fabric and the muted sounds of someone moving about. Lei stirred in his bed, blinking sleepily as he tried to make sense of the shadows dancing on the walls.

As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he saw his mother, Jia, moving quietly around his room. She was carefully packing his belongings into a large cloth bag, her movements precise and deliberate. She paused occasionally, her face set in a determined expression, though the worry in her eyes was unmistakable.

"Mom?" Lei's voice was groggy with sleep as he propped himself up on one elbow. "What are you doing?"

Jia turned at the sound of his voice, her expression softening as she crossed the room to sit beside him. "I'm sorry I woke you, Lei," she said gently, brushing a lock of hair away from his forehead. "We need to leave soon."

"Leave? Where are we going?" he asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

Jia sighed softly, her gaze momentarily distant. "We're going back home," she replied, her voice tinged with regret. "We never should have come back here."

"Why? What's happening?" Lei's confusion grew as he tried to understand the urgency in his mother's voice.

"There's trouble coming," Jia explained, her tone firm but gentle. "We need to get you to a safety."

"Trouble?" Lei echoed, his eyes widening. "What kind of trouble?"

"Tai Lung has almost reached the Valley," Jia said quietly, her eyes filled with concern. "And Po can’t stop him. We have to leave, now."

Lei’s mind raced, trying to process everything. After a moment of stunned silence, he scrambled out of bed, helping his mother pack the last of his belongings. The urgency in her movements spurred him into action, his small hands working quickly to gather his things, his heart pounding with a mix of fear and confusion.

As they finished packing, Jia took one last look around the room, her eyes scanning every corner to ensure they hadn't missed anything. Her gaze lingered briefly under Lei's bed, where a forgotten scroll lay partially hidden in the shadows. Satisfied that they had gathered all their essentials, she turned back to her son. "Come on, Lei. We need to go," she said softly, taking his hand and leading him out of the barracks.

They moved swiftly through the quiet corridors, their footsteps echoing softly in the stillness of the early morning. As they descended the mountain overlooking the village, the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, casting a faint glow through the narrow streets. The air was thick with tension, each step filled with a sense of urgency and impending danger.

"Mom, where's Grandpa?" Lei asked, his voice trembling with worry as they hurried along.

Jia hesitated, glancing down at him. "He's going to face Tai Lung," she replied, her voice heavy with concern.

Lei stopped in his tracks, pulling his hand away from hers. "We have to help him!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide with fear and determination.

"No, Lei," Jia said firmly, taking a deep breath to keep her composure. "We have to go. It's too dangerous."

"But he needs us!" Lei insisted, his voice rising in desperation. "We can't just leave him!"

Jia knelt down to his level, placing her hands on his shoulders. "Listen to me, Lei. There's nothing we can do to help him right now. We need to get to safety."

Tears welled up in Lei's eyes as he shook his head. "I don't want to leave him," he whispered, his voice breaking.

Jia's heart ached as she saw the pain in her son's eyes. She took a deep breath, fighting to keep her own emotions in check. "I know, Lei. I don't want to leave him either. But sometimes, being brave means knowing when to stay safe. We have to trust that he knows what he's doing."
