It had been exactly a week since Uncle Albus and Daddy dropped by. A week of uneasy silences and strange tension hanging around the house like a stubborn fog. And the weirdest part? Things with Sevvie had gotten... complicated. Not in a dramatic, soap-opera kind of way. More like subtle shifts—barely-there glances, unfinished sentences, and a kind of quiet avoidance that screamed louder than words. He kept a polite distance, never rude, but always making sure there was just enough space between us, like I might shatter if he got too close. And yet—I'd catch him staring. Not in a creepy or uncomfortable way. No, his gaze always held something else. A heaviness. Like there were words locked in his throat that refused to come out.
Every time I tried to approach him, he'd suddenly remember something urgent to do. The way he'd whirl around and walk off felt almost rehearsed. Predictable. It was frustrating in a way that gnawed at me constantly. So, there I was—stretched out on the living room couch, frowning at the ceiling like it had answers written across it, deep in a mental chess game trying to figure out how to trap Severus Snape, the broodiest man in magical Britain, into actually talking to me.
"That expression you're making, Bumblebee, is concerning," Sirius announced as he unceremoniously flopped down next to me, nearly knocking my leg off the couch. He had that grin on—the one that always danced on the edge of trouble.
I didn't even look at him. "Just thinking."
"Uh-oh," Remus murmured as he strolled into the room with a mug of tea cradled in both hands like a precious relic. "Should we be worried?"
I groaned and waved a hand vaguely in their direction. "It's nothing. You two don't need to burden your stunningly attractive heads with it."
Sirius gasped, placing a hand over his heart. "Excuse me? Here we are, pouring our love and energy into our precious Bumblebee, and you're brushing us off like old broomsticks?"
"Tragic," Remus added with a chuckle as he lowered himself gracefully into the armchair opposite us. "I thought we were a team."
I arched an eyebrow, lips twitching. "This is top-tier, classified Bumblebee business. Strictly need-to-know."
"Betrayal!" Sirius cried out, flinging himself dramatically across the couch cushions. "First, Sevvie turns into the Phantom of the Corridor, now you're keeping secrets? How is my delicate heart supposed to survive this emotional whiplash?"
Despite myself, I laughed. "Don't you two have errands or something? Didn't James say you needed to head out?"
Sirius blinked like a confused puppy. "Did he?"
"Yes!" I said, pushing myself upright. "You're supposed to be taking Harry to the Burrow today. Ring any bells?"
Remus nearly choked on his tea. "Merlin's knickers—we completely forgot!"
Sirius blinked again, scandalized. "No one told me!"
As if summoned by the gods of timing and parental wrath, Lily's voice rang loud and clear from the hallway, sharp as ever.
"SIRIUS ORION BLACK! REMUS LUPIN! I told you two to leave ten minutes ago!"
Lily burst into the room like a whirlwind, hands planted firmly on her hips, her expression the textbook definition of "mum mode."
