The Mask of Deception

    Colourful fireworks echoed throughout the happy city and illuminated the vast buildings as Y/N aka Perennial sat on a rooftop, watching the oblivious citizens parading around in their silly masks and toy dragons. She tailed the Sons of Garmadon who were regrouping below her, and gave Mr. E a nod, which he returned. 

    Despite being sneaky and agile, Harumi had strictly ordered Perennial not to join in on the mission to acquire the Mask of Deception, instead to follow Mr. E's group and make sure no one was going to give them any trouble tonight.

    Perennial whipped out her heavy-duty grappling hook, and the end latched onto a building which looked like a gnat in comparison to its neighbor and the Sons of Garmadon's target, Borg Tower. She quickly slid across the rope and retracted the hook before shooting it onto another building, her beady polychrome eyes never leaving the gang.

    As Mr. E helped his group onto a neon sign, he suddenly locked eyes with Perennial perched on the next building over. She gestured towards the grappling line, and Mr. E's eyes were quick to follow, leading his team over to cross it.

    The young villainess watched on in boredom, before hearing the unmistakable sounds of a police siren. Luckily, Mr. E had heard it too and ducked out of sight, Perennial quickly tailing them on her grappling hook. One of the SOG members pulled out their own grapple hook, and the group were all finally on Borg Tower, Perennial following from behind.

    She yawned. Staying away from the excitement was both boring and embarrassing.

    After a few agonizing minutes, sirens began to blare and she facepalmed. See what happens when I stay behind? The mask clad gang immediately dove out of the hole in the glass, and she rushed to help Blue Mask up.

    All of a sudden, the member she had just pulled up fell back down again in a bright green flash.

    "Nice masks," a voice said behind Perennial, making her whip around in alarm. Now she wished she had taken a mask as well. "You could almost pass as ninja" the green ninja said. She growled and whipped out her sai, chucking one at his head and gesturing for Mr. E to escape with the mask. He nodded, and sped off as the Green Ninja dodged the sai and fought the rest of the gang, Perennial staying back and smirking at his moves.

    Another bright green flash caught her eyes.

    Green powers.

    Her powers.

    Perennial shook her head. It couldn't be true. As he neared closer to her in his green spinjitzu tornado, she perfectly executed a kick that spun him off course, and he was knocked back into the floor. 'Why not give him a taste of his own medicine?' she mused, as her eyes took on a green and gold glow, bright green mist mirroring the Green Ninja's own burst from her hand.

    Lloyd Garmadon groaned and turned his pounding head, stunned to see a girl stride towards him, her body glowing with a familiar green aura, which reminded him of-

    'No,' he forced himself to think. 'She probably found a way to mimic my powers.' However, the more he watched her advance, the more he doubted his theory. The mysterious girl then started to throw bursts of green power at him, and he used his identical powers to block them off.

    "Who are you?" he found himself asking. She chuckled.

    "Your worst nightmare." And with that, she spun around, grabbed the grappling line, and slid down it, behind White Mask and Mr. E. Lloyd groaned and got up to follow them.

    When Mr. E finally reached the end of the line, he sliced through the tough rope with one of his katana, not caring that two of his teammates were still on the line. One by one, White Mask and Perennial fell, and the Green Ninja grasped the end of the rope and caught the SOG member. He tried to reach for Perennial as well, but she sent him a glare and gave him the bird, flipping in the air and landing beside Mr. E.

    The two of them watched their teammate get caught by the cops, but then ran off for their bikes when seeing the Green Ninja advance towards them.

    After riding for not even a full minute, Perennial heard the unmistakable sounds of a car landing behind her, and she dared to turn her head and lock eyes with the green clad hero.

    "Mr. E!" she said into her earpiece. "You go ahead, I'll distract him!" As her ally picked up the speed, she slowed down until she was level with the ninja's car. "Hey there!" she greeted him. He only grunted in annoyance.

    "Who is this?" She heard him say, and a robotic voice answered his question.

    "Perennial, a villainess known for various crimes throughout Ninjago City."

    "That's me!" she grinned, seeing a mini picture of her face pop up on the car's screen. The Green Ninja rolled his eyes, then sped off behind Mr. E. Perennial swore under her breath and followed the two.

    After countless close calls, Perennial and Mr. E found themselves face to face with their foe. She remembered something Mr. E had shown her the night before, and activated the brake teeth on her bike, sailing above the young hero before ejecting herself out of her seat and opening her Garmadon parachute to land to safety below.

    "We have obtained the mask, Quiet One."

    "Excellent. I want you outside the palace in exactly two days' time. We're going to have some fun with the ninja."

    Y/N stood uncomfortably beside Harumi's throne in her bright green kimono, her face caked with make-up. She had come in the disguise of one of 'Harumi's old friends', the excuse granting her a couple days in the palace to plan and perform the heist.

    The doors opened revealing the ninja and Hutchins, bowing as he spoke. "I present to you, the exalted Emperor and Empress of Ninjago, and their daughter, the Jade Princess, Princess Harumi. Oh, her friend Y/N as well." At that, said girl dared to roll her eyes. She watched on in disinterest as the ninja formed a line to bow to the royal name.

    After Harumi had given a full-on speech on each of the ninja, Y/N heard her name being said, and zoned back into the conversation.

    "I too have lost my parents," Harumi was saying. "Y/N is all I have left of my old life. My best friend, and now my family too." When all the ninja's eyes were on her, she gave a small smile and tried to hide her unique eyes as much as usual. It was a miracle how the Green Ninja hadn't recognized her yet.

    When yet another speech from the Emperor and Harumi was over, Hutchins led the ninja out of the throne room, and Harumi said her farewells to her parents before dragging Y/N out after the young heroes had left.

    After being seated in Harumi's private quarters, the princess gave the undercover spy a quick rundown about what was going to happen over the next few days.

    Through the mirror, Y/N saw Lloyd staring at Harumi, and she gave her a quick nudge to get her to stop talking.

    "Your room is so nice, Harumi! You really got the adoption jackpot." Y/N fake grinned.

    "I know, right!" Harumi replied through gritted teeth. She then proceeded to 'look' in the mirror and pretend that the Green Ninja had managed to embarrass her, making him leave. "He's such a pest!" she hissed at Y/N, and she couldn't help but agree. It was only a matter of time before she got rid of him, once and for all.

    When night finally fell, Harumi whispered to Y/N; "Now we put our plan to action."
