=Day of Stampede=

The entire volunteer group, adventurers, and military unit (Knights and Guardsmen) are lining up in the middle of dusk, or 5:45 a.m.; they are grabbing their breakfast to have energy before battle. The meal consisted of scrambled eggs with bacon, mashed potatoes, corned beef, bread, and cream stew. They can choose whatever they drink, whether coffee or tea, to keep them warm in cold weather while the sun is about to rise.

They enjoy their meal even though they are unsure if they will eat hearty food again once they make themselves out alive from the onslaught, but in the meantime, they have 2 hours of leisure time after the preparations last night were all completed.

Having conversation with each other, smoking their cigarettes, drinking beverages, having jamming sessions with their instruments, some writing on their parchments or journals, and others cleaning their guns. The trench was filled with mixed emotions as they anticipated the threat looming when the sun rose and was later devoured by the moon in a solar eclipse. Of course, Wolfpack aren't exempt from feeling nervous, yet they distract themselves to steel their motivation to survive and save Ontoria.

The scene is like a day before the grassy field of Verdun became a no man's land. Many people of all ages loved the view when they stepped out of the walls and had fresh air outside, but, sadly, it'll be a distant memory for the sake of defending the duchy. This battle will be the testament to survival that the horror of humanity's eradication brought upon the last duchies and towns by warp creatures.

=Taurus' P.O.V=

I was lying on the bunk bed inside the underground bunker as I'm writing in my journal with a quail, stating the events that happened to me before and now. My weapon is a M1897 Trenchgun with a bayonet knife on it. Even though I have better weapons exclusively for Wolfpack members such as myself, I chose this gun as my weapon of choice and also have easy access as we have 12 gauge ammunition in our storage. He also provided me with three container boxes of its ammunition.

Up until now, we don't know where and how he got these sophisticated weapons, to the point where we actually think he's an artisan or person who crafts and enchants weapons, accessories, and items, but we dropped that idea as we never felt the mana essence from the weapons Genji provided. I couldn't help but sign because I wish we could go on a normal adventure like everyone else does, but we ended up here. Sheltering in the tunnel and trench.

"Hey, Taurus." I looked up to the person who called me as I found a dark elf in brown combat field uniform with webbings and pouches, carrying a bolt-action rifle with sniper scope. I couldn't help but smile seeing a pretty girl, even though the bunker was dim, despite having a firestone and a bulb used as light in the tunnel network.

"Sorana, what are you doing here? I thought that you'd regroup with Tatania on the left side of the East Trench," I asked. I watched her as she sat on the bed beside me and laid her rifle on her lap.

"Well, I still have 10 minutes before going there. What about you? I thought you're going to the rear with Derek on the contraptions?" Sorana asked.

"Well, I have 10 minutes before packing up and going there," I replied.

We both chuckled softly before placing my journal and quailing to the side, then facing at her.

"Who would have thought that being an adventurer would end up like this?" I muttered.

"To be honest, very surprising. You see, we should be doing normal jobs while slowly yet steadily ranking up, yet because of special requests from the lord himself and what happened after the dungeon, our days are becoming more interesting." Sorana replied and shrugged her shoulders.

"You want normal days?"

"I'm getting used to this type of living, which is more interesting than a normal one."

We spent our last minutes chatting before we looked at our own wrist watches, picked up our guns and helmets, and stood up.

"See you at noon or after this wave, Sorana," I said.

Don't die on me, Darling," she replied before winking at me. At first, I furrowed my eyebrows out of curiosity, but I'll take it as a good luck charm. Well, what can I say? Sorana is... mhmmm... Oh yeah, a baddie. She's beautiful and knows "Take names and kick arses."  I would never die before I'll take a chance to date you, missy.
