Episode 20 - The Culprit

"Everyone," Sebastian said calmly, raising his hands slightly and pushed them forward, "settle down."

"Settle down?" Matilda echoed. "One of us was murdered! Are you insane?!"

"How can we settle down knowing that there's a killer on this ship?!" Aunt Beth retorted, cheeks burning red in fear. "This is complete and utter chaos!"

"Everybody!" I yelled then. "If you want to live, we must remain calm!"

The entire room silenced then, and everyone settled in their seats, breaths straining.

"Now, we must assess the situation like normal," I stated, lashes lowering. "There are no detectives on this ship but me, so we must be clear and precise when examining the situation. Madam Beth is a doctor, so she assessed the body and determined the death as a stabbing straight to the heart. Knowing this is the first step, but the next plausible thing to do is ask for alibis."

The room silenced for a moment, but Aunt Beth spoke up first. "I was in the room with you, Yumi! And Curtis, Matilda, Claudia, and Sebastian!"

"I was with Sir Jeffery, Madam Deneise, and those two girls over there," Madam Savage said, pointing to my other two cousins. "We were finishing off the dinner platters."

"And us four servants were all washing up in the kitchen!" Maddox said then, brows drawing together.

We all were silent for a moment, and I pressed my finger to my chin, thinking.

But then my eyes widened, and we all gazed over to Madam Beham—my grandmother—who sat on the chair casually.

"Mom?" Madam Beth said then, brows drawing together as Beham sipped her tea casually. "You were the only one alone last night. We were looking for you. Was it you?"

She continued sipping her tea, her pinky pointed outward. "I had no reason to kill that man."

"He splashed your granddaughter and then threatened to hit her!" Sir Jeffery said then, glaring. "That's plenty motive to me."
