Episode 27 - Her Butler, Knowing the Culprit

I kept my eyes closed, head resting on Sebastian's chest as he mindlessly stroked my back.

I didn't know if he could tell I was awake or not, but... I was for a while now.

It was early morning, maybe six or seven o'clock. Not my wake up time, and I was secretly glad it wasn't because I was very comfortable.

I might've been a self-centered brat, but some things I couldn't resist.

I hated to admit that, though.

Sebastian was lying on the right side of the bed, left hand under his head as the other one wrapped around my form and rubbed my back.

I could tell he was relaxed and alert at the same time. He just had that stance right now.

I could also tell he was staring at the ceiling, thinking. He was always thinking. I was always thinking.

He was going through every possible outcome today, I could tell.

Sebastian taught me how to play chess; the number one tool is strategy. Assessing the situation before going in full force. Sebastian could assess a situation in a matter of seconds. He had the sight and intellect of a computer, but it was due to him being a demon.

I, on the other hand, was completely human. A human mind, a human body, a human lifespan.

Although, I did have an odd sect of intelligence for a typical eighteen-year-old, everything I knew was taught by Sebastian. He gave me schooling lessons, strategic lessons. He taught me nursing material, which gave to my medical knowledge.

He taught me everything I knew.

I thought he did it just so my soul would be tastier, but no... in reality he already knew what a Phantomhive earl had to do because of Ciel, and he taught me skills that an Earl needed to solve crimes.

If he was in it entirely for my soul, like he was with Ciel, he sure went out of his way for these things.

Didn't Ciel find that odd, though...? Or did he just not want to accept it?

I shuffled more into Sebastian.

You should be asking that question to yourself, Yumi. You are Ciel, and you've been thinking the same things.

I just kept myself relaxed into Sebastian, breathing gently.

But-after a moment-I turned further into him, burying my face in his shoulder. "Sebastian...."

"Yes, master?" His voice was gentle, quiet.

"I'm cold," I said then.

He immediately shuffled against me and pulled the covers up to my nose, tucking them under me so my body heat would catch better.

"Warm enough?" he said then.

I nodded, relaxing back into him again.

He kept rubbing my back.

"I'm dying of curiosity," I said then, gazing up. "Who is it?"

Sebastian just smiled. "Haven't you already figured it out?"

I stared back down at his chest, but a low, sly smile spread across my face.

"I thought so," he said then, sighing, "you're very clever, master. No one seems to understand that. I'm sure you've figured out everything else, too, haven't you?"

I just closed my eyes and relaxed into his chest, smile still there. "Tell me the plan."
