Episode 28 Finale - Her Butler, Done with Waiting

"My kitten is in bed," Sebastian said then, glancing over at me as I sat on my bed. "Is that everything you need tonight, master?"

I avoided eye contact and nodded, keeping my eyes trained to the bed.

He came up to my me and pulled back the sheets, and I got under them, feeling him draw them back over me.

He just stepped forward and bowed, setting his hand on his chest. "I bid you good night, my young lord."

He then turned and left the room, closing the door behind him.

I stared at the door for a moment before I sighed and sat up, pushing the comforter off me.

I just caught a blanket from my pile of sheets and stepped over to the door.

I then exited my bedroom, lashes lowering while I made my way down the hall.

I finally stopped at a small doorway, and I pushed it open.

I just shut my lashes, feeling the wind dust my face.

But I stepped outside-on the upstairs terrace-and then sat down onto the floor of the deck.

After wrapping the blanket tightly around myself, I rested down onto the wood, staring softly outside as I breathed in the night air.

I watched as two bats flew across the full moon and skittering away, and I listened as the crickets chirped, the wind brushing branches of trees and bushes together... and the stars, the stars sparkling in the night sky.

A memory suddenly flooded my mind, an image of my mother sitting out here with me when I was ten or eleven. I had my head rested on her lap, smiling as she brushed her fingers through my hair.

My lashes lowered then, and I closed my eyes, letting myself slowly drift.

But I suddenly heard footsteps, a soft tapping of shoes against the hardwood in the house behind me.

I didn't want to move, though... I was so comfortable and warm... and all the sounds were so nice.

I felt like a child again. If I imagined my mother sitting here with me, comforting me like she always did... then I could believe it was real. Maybe for a couple minutes, right?

But the door of the manor closed, and the footsteps tapped over to me.

Arms were slipped under me, and I parted my eyes to find Sebastian's expression masked.

He just lifted me and sat down, setting me in his lap seconds later.

I gazed up at him curiously, but he just pushed my head to his shoulder and covered me more with the blanket.

Did he know...? Did I ever mention this memory?

I just closed my eyes and snuggled my face into his neck, feeling him rub his hand up and down my arm as I let myself drift, once more.
