Fae sat in her room, the glow of her phone screen illuminating her face. She had sent Kai a message days ago, a simple yet desperate, "Why did you unfollow me, dawg?" For days, she had stared at the message, willing a response to appear, hoping for some clarity. Then, finally, her phone buzzed.
Her heart pounded as she opened the notification. It was from Kai.
"Just needed some space," he replied.
Fae's heart sank a little. It was so vague, so unlike him. She wanted more—needed more.
"Why? Did I do something wrong?" she typed quickly, her fingers trembling.
There was a pause. She watched the typing indicator dance on the screen, holding her breath. But then it stopped. No reply. She waited, minutes feeling like hours, but nothing came.
Desperate for answers, she sent another message. "Please, Kai I don't understand."
Seen.
No reply.
Frustration and sadness bubbled up inside her. She couldn't let it go. She had to know.
Another pause, then finally, a response. "Calm down, you're not getting killed. I'm chillin' bruh."
Fae's heart ached. Why was he being like this? What had happened to the guy who used to text her every day, who told her he appreciated her, who made her feel special?
"I have a question." she pressed.
Seen.
"Good for you." Was the last message Kai had sent her.
She didn't reply.
Tears welled up in her eyes. She felt like she was hitting a wall. Every message she sent was a desperate attempt to salvage something, anything, from the wreckage of their relationship. But he was shutting her out, leaving her in the dark. She couldn't understand why he was doing this to her, why he was being so cruel.
