"Are you able to order those lights during lunch?" Ashlyn asked Aiden. I was walking beside Taylor in the halls, and they were discussing the lights for the wall.

"I should be, yeah."

"Aren't your parents going to be confused when the lights arrive though?" Taylor asked.

"Nah, they're on a trip right now. Probably won't be back for a few months."

"Oh."

Tyler looked up from his phone. "I was wondering where the nerd was."

I sighed. Not this again.

"It's him again." Taylor said.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm on it," Tyler grumbled. I walked up to Barron with Tyler, hands folded behind my back and a threatening smile on my face.

"Hey Barron," I said, as one could mistake me for being kind. "Whacha doing?"

Tyler crossed his arms as Barron muttered something. Then he said, "...I'm just talking to my science partner about our project."

"I'm sure you were," Tyler glanced at Logan, who had a fresh bruise already forming on his cheek. I clenched my fists, and took a step forward, about to yell and shove Barron, but Tyler calmly set a hand on my shoulder. "I'm not an idiot, Barron. I could hear you yelling from the end of the hallway. You're already skating on thin ice with coach, so buzz off before he finds out how you're treating your science 'partner'."

Barron turned. "So annoying. Fine."

When Barron walked off, he brushed his hand against mine, making my blood boil. My muscles tensed, and before I could tackle him and punch him until his heart stopped beating, Tyler tightened his grip on my shoulder. I took a steady breath. "Sorry," I whispered.

Tyler nodded, and then looked at Logan. "You're seriously scared of him? After being around those things every night. Pathetic."

"Tyler!-"

I looked at where Barron had gone, and then sighed, putting hand sanitizer on my hands to get his touch off.

"-Not cool." Taylor laid a hand on Logan's shoulder. "What was that about?"

Logan didn't answer at first, then mumbled, "I forgot to do his part of the project..."

"How is he supposed to survive when he can't even stand up for himself? Right now isn't the time to be soft."

I watched as Ashlyn walked up to us. Where were Aiden and Ben?

"Tyler's right," Ashlyn said, making me raise an eyebrow. Barron was an asshole. I'd learned that the hardway. "Though his way of saying it is uncalled for, Logan definitely needs some strength training."

I snorted. "We all do."

Ashlyn sighed. "That's why I'm thinking of asking our parents to teach us self-defense. They taught me some when I was younger, but I don't remember it enough to teach you guys on my own."

See, Aiden! I knew she knew some fighting techniques!

I pulled out my phone, texting Aiden as the others talked.
