Taylor gasped. "Ah- sorry Ashlyn! I didn't mean to interrupt you!"
"Huh? No, it's alright. I also agree that it was considerate of Ben to let us know."
Logan nodded. "M-me too..."
"Yeah," me and Tyler said at the same time.
Logan intertwined his fingers nervously. "Um... it's a little off topic, but I think I have a theory of what happened in Savannah."--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well- er, not exactly 'what happened' but how we went from Savannah, Georgia, all the way back here to Alto, Georgia on the second night."
I nodded at Logan words, laying my head in my arms on the table. We had been stuck on it for a while. I closed my eyes.
After we had left Savannah, instead of us returning to the motels on the second night, we woke up in our beds back home. This didn't make sense once we figured out that we always return to where we previously were in the phantom dimension. So, we all ended up having to hide ourselves as best as possible until things were safe again. The whole situation has been a disaster, but the first few nights were particularly brutal...
Pictures flashed through my mind and I shuddered, opening my eyes to get the pictures out of my head.
... that's when we realized that whatever was happening at night wasn't a fluke and it wasn't going to stop.
I looked up only to be met with Ben's stare, and quickly looked away, looking over at Logan instead. Tyler asked, "Okay, so what's the theory?""Well... because of how our injuries work in relation to each dimension, I think the bodies we use here and use in the phantom dimension are separate but also... connected. So, if they are connected in some way, what if there's a distance limit? If you travel too far from one body, then the other resets its position instead of going back where we were previously."
Ashlyn thought about it, then hesitated. "That would make sense... so the question is 'how far' is that distance limit? And if we traveled too far in the phantom dimension, would our bodies here also change locations?"
I sighed through my nose, playing with the skin on my arm.
"That's a possibility... but there's also the fact that things don't move the same in the phantom dimension as they do in the human. I'm not sure how we would test it though-
"THEORY BLAH BLAH-
"-MORE THEORY BLAH BLAH"SLAM
I jumped into a sitting position in alarm, to see that Aiden had smashed his head into the table.
"I get that learning about the dimension is important and stuff, but can we talk about something more exciting?" Aiden wined.
I sighed, head in my hands. Tyler stood up, hand raised, and me and Taylor grabbed his arm
"Don't," I snapped. Ashlyn started to raise her hand after Tyler sat down, and I gave her a look. "Ashlyn."
"What do you think about asking my parents to teach us self-defense?" Ashlyn asked, hand lowered.
Aiden's head shot up, and I snorted. "Really?!" he paused, as if he had forgotten something. In a swift motion, he grabbed her arms and shook her. "Your hair! If we show your parents your shadow, wouldn't that be proof of what's happening to us?!"
I pulled out my phone, scrolling through social media to ignore how he was shaking her. Her. Why the actual flippity flap am I jealous about that.
"Let go of-" she froze. "Hold on, that's true-"
I raised an eyebrow, looking up from my phone. "Wow- so he does have a brain?"
"Who knew?" Tyler muttered.
"Ooohhh~" Taylor said, nudging me. She whispered, "Are you jeaaalous?"
I snorted. "Nope, why would I be?"
