Alex nodded, pulled out his tablet, and clicked through some pictures. "The camera for your room is still working, but the cameras for the others malfunctioned at the same time you were infected. This was the last shot that the cameras captured before crashing..."

I groaned in pain as I sat up, and peeked at the tablet. Everyone had a book in their hand, which I knew was the ASL book. But, in particular... they're all facing the same direction I was in.

I sat on my bed, picking at my sandwich as Alex put away my clothes. "Remember the man from the room with the infected? Grey hair, long face?"

"Uh huh?" I poked at the cheese. I'm guessing it was the first dude with grey hair.

"He's in a coma. Along with the two assistants that were at the desks. Kind of like the coma patients I had mentioned before," Alex informed me. I nodded, scooting my sandwich away and sitting on the stiff bed. "A friend of mine was the one who was sent to check on him, which is when they found the assistants. They had been fine before they went to sleep, but afterwards, they didn't wake up."

My mind partially shifted to when the phantom had stabbed a hole through my arm. When it grinned at me for the first time. In my living room. Then when there was a hole in my arm. The infected in the room.

Maverick thinks that we can open 'rifts' between our two dimensions...

Was it me or Ashlyn that pulled them in...? Maybe it was me? No...

Because that would mean...

I gripped the sheets. No. That wasn't possible.

But if it is...

I looked up. Alex was gone. There was only blackness.

If it was true... then maybe... if I was out of the picture... would the cycle stop? If me and Ash just disappeared... would it stop?

I shook my head, scrambling up. Darkness only. Where was everything?

I blinked, my breath coming out in short gasps as I gripped my shirt.

Then I blinked.

"You don't want to eat any of this?" a voice asked. I hummed, eyes darting around the familiar -yet unfamiliar- room. "Hernandez?"

My hand released my shirt, falling to my side. "Sorry- uh- no. I'm not hungry."

He frowned. "You haven't been eating lately." When I didn't respond, he only sighed, picking up the food. "I'll be back to bring you dinner in a few hours."

I only nodded.
