My footsteps were partially muffled by the thumping pulse in my ears and the yelling of the group.
"Time!?" Ashlyn yelled over the commotion.
The boy from beside me looked down at his watch with wide blue eyes, "8 minutes!"
Just a bit longer-
The 8th pair of footsteps sounded out behind me.

I saw Ashlyn's worried expression as she took a small glance behind everyone.
It was close.Suddenly, something bright yellow through the trees caught my eye, and I yelled, "The graveyard!"

It was right there-
My right ankle twisted. With a yell, I broke my fall by tucking into a roll. I quickly rolled to my feet into a running start. I could hear it right behind me.
The metal doors were so close yet so far-
I wasn't going to make it.
I was going to let everyone down.
Again.
Ashlyn skidded in, hand hovering over the button.

Tyler ran in, with me right behind him.
"CLOSE THE GATE, CLOSE THE GATE!" he yelled, just as I rolled in.
Ashlyn's hand slammed onto the red button. The metal gate started closing. Too slow. Way too slow.
The black gooey face grinned at my disheveled form on the ground, white eyes boring into my brown ones.
It was going to get through.
It was going to get me.
It was going to-
The gate closed in its face.
BANG

BANG
I flinched as everyone slouched in relief. Aiden's smile was still plastered on his face as Logan internally cried. I shakily started to stand up, Ben helping me. I gave him a thankful smile, and before I could say anything, Taylor and Tyler rushed over. Taylor checked my face, turning it from side to side.
"I'm fine," I tried to say.
Tyler inspected Taylor and I, arms crossed, then sighed. He turned his head over to Ashlyn. "Can we go back to the bus now?"
Ashlyn nodded "Sounds great."

I slumped into the seat between Tyler and Taylor, my head on Taylor's shoulder. The banging continued to sound throughout the graveyard.
"Ugh," Tyler groaned from beside me, head on the back of the seat. "That sucked."
