Cassie grimaced as she glanced around the hospital room around her, trying her best to ignore the glances Elena sent her way, as Alaric was about to have an MRI scan — she really hated hospitals.

The two best friends hadn't spoken since the night Bonnie's mom died, resulting in her turning into a vampire. Cassie didn't know what to say, Elena kept texting saying she was sorry (so much that Cassie muted her for a few hours) but she didn't want an apology, she wanted change.

Meredith was the unfortunate victim of the squabble, the silence tense and thick as she kept herself busy with paperwork and assisting Alaric.

Elena glanced at Cassie once more, wishing the woman would so much as glance in her direction, before resting her eyes on the window viewing into the MRI machine. "What are you looking for?"

The doctor pursued her lips, "I don't know." She admitted with a heavy sigh. "A tumour, vascular anomalies, anything physical that might explain his behaviour. If it's medical, I can treat it."

"And if it's not?" Elena swallowed thickly, it was one struggle if the cause was medical but an entirely different one if it was supernatural. She didn't know anything about dying and coming back to life but...she looked at Cassie again, the blonde was very advanced in that subject.

Meredith stayed quiet for a moment, she had no idea what to do if the problem wasn't medical. "Well, then we'll deal with that too." She declared.

Cassie was too worried to speak, her stomach churned as a million thoughts raced through her mind. What if Alaric wasn't actually having a psychotic break and there was something medically  wrong with him. She didn't want to lose him. She tugged on her necklace tightly as she watched a technician slide Alaric inside the machine.

"When did you suspect him?" Elena questioned the Fell woman. "That it was Alaric who was killing all of those people?"

Cassie thought back to what Kol told her at the party, he said herbs and other natural remedies would help cure supernaturally induced insanity. The chances of the murders being caused by the Gilbert ring was highly plausible, all magic comes with a price.

Meredith teared her eyes away from the monitor, "It was after he told me about his ring." She told Elena. "I remembered a story my grandmother had told me about Samantha Gilbert and her secret journal. I don't know if you know this, but we Fells are notorious busy-bodies." She said, making the students smile softly.

"But then, why did you protect him?"

"Because I'm a doctor," She answered firmly, "I don't like to see someone hurt by something they have no control over." Cassie felt Elena's eyes on her again. "And because when he and I first met I felt like...I don't know, I- I just kind of want to help him."
