The fresh scent of roses was dressed all over the small cottage where you resided. The pot of water you were boiling was beginning to steam, and an enormous amount of herbs floated on the top of the surface as you gathered all the blankets you possibly could.
The man you had cared for throughout the night finally seemed to be out of a critical state and you were happily preparing a bowl full of medicine as you knew he would wake up soon.
You watched his body shift a bit and slowly the man's eyes opened to see the roof above him. He blinked once before his eyes snapped over to meet yours.
"You're awake," you said, "I found you in the forest at the village entrance. You were covered in snow."
You filled a bowl full of herb water and offered it to him.
The man just stared at you.
"Here," you ushered, pushing the bowl a bit closer to him.
The man looked at you in confusion.
You didn't understand what there was to be confused about.
"You should drink it."
He looked down at the bowl with an odd expression.
He took a single sip. It was disgusting.
He put the bowl down before staring at the woman in front of him. Where was he? How had he gotten here?
"What's your name?" you asked him.
He blinked.
"..."
"You don't know?"
"I don't recall."
The man had a deeper voice than you expected. The way he spoke was quite proper. Did he come from a wealthy family?
His eyes darted around a bit, "Where am I?"
"You're in the Nara village."
The man thought for a moment. Nara. It sounded oddly familiar. He tried to retrace the memory but as soon as he did a large amount of pain overcame him.
He held his head for a moment bearing through the sharpness but when another pang fell over him, his body fell over and you rushed over to catch him.
"Are you alright?"
He shook his head.
"Do you remember where you're from?"
He shook his head.
You frowned.
This would be a problem. You had only meant to help this man survive. You had no idea you would be walking yourself into a case of amnesia.
"Well, no matter, I suppose."
Supporting him against your chest, you yet again stirred the herb water and began preparing another bowl for the confused human.
As Kibutsuji laid comfortably on you, he realized how soft you were. The sweet scent of roses radiated from your skin.
He didn't understand how you could be so soft.
This, of course, came from the fact that his head was lying on your boob. You didn't notice.
His eyes peered up at your earnest expression. There was no doubt in his mind that you were a village girl. Your hair was braided back and your yukata seemed just functional. His surroundings were shockingly simple and plain and the way you spoke further confirmed his idea.
A part of him was slightly upset...if he was going to be saved couldn't it be by someone who had a bit of money?
He stared at you in disappointment but then chose to think differently. Perhaps there was an unknown connection the two of you shared, perhaps there was something he was missing.
"Do I know you?"
You paused.
"What do you mean sir?"
"Have we met before?"
"Of course not..."
You were positive you had never seen this man before in your life. He had the type of face you were sure you would remember if you had. His skin was shockingly pale, his eyes a bright shade of red and his nails darker than anything you had seen before.
He took the bowl and looked at the disgusting liquid inside of it.
"I'm not drinking this..."
You frowned.
"How are you supposed to get better if you don't take herb water?"
"I won't."
He made his way off of you and settled himself back into the futon bed.
You didn't think much of his gesture, you assumed he was just feeling tired, "Do you intend to rest a bit more?" you asked.
"Yes."
You gave a nod, "I've no problem with you staying here until your memory returns. I only ask you pull your weight for the time being."
Kibutsuji heard your words. They went in one ear and out the other.
"Sure."
He didn't take you seriously. Soon he'd be forced to.
You adjusted the covers that lay over him. You wrapped him snuggly, ensuring he was well before you departed.
"Farewell," you said simply.
You gave a cordial bow before standing up and leaving.
Kibutsuji watched you as you left his line of sight.
Who exactly were you?
