Your eyes fluttered open

Your eyes fluttered open.

There was a roof above you. It was brown and dimly lit and as you heard the sound of a crackling flame you groaned a bit. In your head, there was a searing pain. It pounded ridiculously as if pulsing from your brain.

You looked down to see your body wrapped in white cloth and the room in which you resided was warm.

Snuggling into the covers that lay on you a bit more, you sighed.

The previous clothing you had been wearing was nowhere to be found. Instead, you wore a simple yukata that served as sufficient for covering your assets.

You were pleasantly surprised by your good fortune, feeling fortunate for the fact you had been saved.

That hungry demon had almost been the demise of you. You were interested in seeing your saviour but it didn't seem like he was in the room.

That was until you heard the sound of the door opening.

In walked a man with long bright red hair.

His hair fell all the way down his back to his lower waist. He was fairly tall and looked well-built. He wore a calm expression on his face as his eyes landed on you.

"..."

Your eyes widened as something in your mind clicked, "You were the one who undressed me?!"

The man was quiet a moment.

"..."

He nodded.

Your face brightened with a fierce blush before you hurriedly looked away.

What in the hell?

"I had to stop the bleeding...and your clothing was too wet," he began slowly, "you'll have to forgive the inconvenience."

You looked at him terrified at his words.

Was he serious?

"You couldn't find a woman to do it?"

"There was no time."

There was no time?!

You looked around the room for something to throw at him and spotted your equipment. You picked it up and prepared to launch it at him but as soon as you went to throw it, the muscles in your shoulder began to burn.

You couldn't seem to hold your arm up at all and your arm gave out. You groaned at the sharp pain you felt and upon seeing your discomfort the man rushed over to you.

Despite the fact he knew you had just planned to launch objects his way, he still helped you as if you hadn't.

You had ripped the bandaging around your arm and you watched as the silent man tenderly readjusted it. He placed pressure on your muscle causing you to moan but a second later the discomfort you felt began to slowly subside.

You stared up at the being. His focused eyes were a soft shade of maroon.

You sat still waiting for him to finish and when he did you made eye contact.

An awkward silence fell over you as you stared at each other. You were still quite flustered at the fact this man had most likely seen you partially naked but seeing as he had just helped you, you tried to ignore the fact.

You readjusted your own attitude, "Thank you," you said.

He gave a nod.

You stared at each other a bit longer.

"How did you save me? Who are you?"

"..."

Was he not going to say anything?

"It's dangerous...to wander the northern mountains at night."

"I know. I just wanted to sell my-"

The door opened. In walked a woman, she looked straight at the two of you.

"You finally woke up?"

You couldn't believe your eyes. A woman.

You blushed looking at him, "But there's a woman right there."

"..."

"She wasn't here when I was saving you."

The woman glared at you, "Master Yoriichi saved you, aren't you grateful?"

You bit your lip. Yoriichi?

"I am. Please don't get me wrong. I'm sorry. Thank you."

You smiled looking up at him, "Really, thank you."

The red-haired man gave a small nod.

The woman smiled. It seemed you weren't as conceded as you came off.

Yoriichi was finally able to step away from the conversation as the woman took over.

"Is your shoulder feeling alright? Why were you outside at night."

"I came here as a seller. I was going to a nearby village. I took the mountain because it was a shortcut."

She scoffed at your naivety, "You won't be doing that much anymore, will you?"

"I'll be taking the long way from now on."

You thought back to the attack as you looked up at the woman with conflicted eyes, "What was that thing?"

"What thing?"

"The thing that attacked me."

The woman's facial expression became serious, "It was a demon."

A demon?

"So they actually exist?"

She gave a nod.

"Master Yoriichi over there is a demon slayer, he helps people who are attacked by them, you're lucky he came when he did."

Your eyes once again travelled up to meet the eyes of the maroon-haired man.

He had removed himself from the conversation completely and upon acknowledging the fact you were staring at him he looked away.

The woman spoke, "May I ask your name?"

"I'm (Y/N)."

She smiled, "I'm Kiyoko," she replied, "I'm departing tomorrow actually. I'm going to a new village starting next week."

"That's too bad."

"You'll be back up to speed very soon," she proposed, "A day or two, I suppose. You can stay here under our watch until then."

"Once I leave, master Yoriichi will watch over you."

There was a silence.

Your inner voice screamed.

Why?

Why did it have to be that man?

In truth, he was uncomfortable himself at Kiyoko's suggestion but instead of addressing the situation, he took the liberty of exiting the room.

You watched him but decided to suck it up.

You would just have to live with it.
