Yoriichi returned to you shortly after and you headed on a walk.
"(Y/N)," he spoke now fully dressed, "you overslept."
You blinked a few times before you blushed a bit.
It was embarrassing how both him and Kiyoko felt the need to point that out.
"I guess I was just more tired than I thought," you tried to play it off, "usually I'm pretty good at travelling far distances."
Yoriichi spoke, "I told you I would journey with you to a far place, I'm unsure if I'll be able to manage-,"
"Oh! Please don't worry about that anymore."
Yoriichi was caught of guard by your sudden raise of voice; he turned his head to look at you.
You spoke, "I actually decided I don't want to go too far anymore."
He blinked. He didn't understand the sudden change of heart. He wanted to ask why...but a part of him wasn't sure if he should.
You sensed his curiosity and sighed a bit, "Actually...I wanted to apologize."
"..."
"I realize that it was presumptuous of me to ask you to take me on a journey. You're busy and have a lot to deal with already. I guess I didn't really think of what it would be like from your perspective."
"It's of no inconvenience to me."
You forced a smile, "But I feel like you...you felt pressure to say yes to my request."
"That's not true," Yoriichi corrected, "If I didn't want to do it, I would've said so."
You tried to match his words with his expression. It seemed true enough.
You thought for a moment, "I know we were going to walk far...but is it okay if we just stay here for the remaining time?"
"But didn't you want to head to a place with clear blue skies?"
You shook your head, "I'm no longer interested in that. I prefer just being like this with you."
"..."
"I think what I truly need right now is company and being around you and Kiyoko is peaceful. Being around people who make me happy is all I've ever wanted."
Yoriichi blinked, "Are there no such people in your village?"
"It's not the same."
Not the same?
He understood.
It had only recently occurred to him that the people who had always made him feel secure were pulling away from him all of a sudden.
The regret he felt plagued him and could only be erased temporarily before he found himself lamenting on his life again.
If he couldn't even defeat Muzan Kibutsuji, then what was the reason for his existence?
"I especially enjoy your company Yoriichi."
The sudden confession dragged him out of his thoughts.
He looked over at you.
You said it so easily.
For the first time, despite his expression being quite solid, you could sense the aloofness in his demeanour.
The man was baffled.
You laughed a bit, "Thank you, Yoriichi. Thank you for bringing me out here."
His chest began to feel tight. It was a strange feeling.
He noticed that his pain seemed to melt away when he looked at you.He had known from the moment he had agreed to this journey it was out of character for him, but it was only now that he realized he was very comfortable around you.
And the comfortability only seemed to be increasing with each passing second.
"And besides this compound is beautiful," your mind wandered to another topic, "Oh! Did you know Kiyoko is married!"
Yoriichi had no idea how you jumped from one topic to the next.
"Yes, I'm aware of Kiyoko's marriage."
"She was writing a letter yesterday. It was so cute... being in love must be so nice."
"..."
"Yoriichi?"
He spoke, "(Y/N)."
"Yes."
"Are you not married?"
You shook your head, "Not yet."
Yoriichi blinked.
He had expected such an answer.
"Do you want to be married?" he asked.
You nodded, "I hope to be in love one day."
He was silent.
Love?
The people he loved the most in his life, he could never seem to hold on to them.
Everyone became a faded memory...he was always left alone.
"What about you Yoriichi?"
He tilted his head.
"Are you married?"
The question was sour to him.
He didn't like to reminisce.
"No."
You nodded as you stared down at the grass.
Your eyes lingered to look up at him but immediately you found yourself frowning.
"Why are you sad?"
"I'm not sad."
"You say such words...but your expression doesn't match."
Expression? What expression? His expressions weren't easily read.
"I like when you talk," you stated simply.
For the second time, despite his expression being quite solid, you could sense the aloofness in his demeanour.
The man was baffled yet again.
You tried to suppress a laugh but it came out.
That smile.
Yet again, he recognized he truly loved your smile.
"What I mean is, I like hearing your thoughts, so please don't be afraid to share them. If you don't want to though, then that's okay."
Yoriichi was stunned but then relaxed.
He spoke, "If I was to explain it, I'd say it's complicated."
You smiled at his words, "Isn't everything?"
