When you returned to your cottage, the inside was clean. In fact, it seemed to be even more clean than when you had left it.

The floor was clear, and it was unusually quiet.

"Hello? Is anyone here?"

You didn't receive a response.

Your feet wandered deeper inside as you checked each room. Your head peered into each designated space but when you found nothing you frowned.

Where was he?

Was that man still here?

Making sure you weren't mistaken, you double-checked each room. Even then, you came up empty.

Had he left?

You grew silent. Had he departed without even telling you? You didn't want to believe it at first, but you knew there could be a chance.

Still, you doubted it. Even though he hadn't been here for a long time he couldn't have left so abruptly?

You frowned. Were you alone again?

Was it that yet another person had abandoned you? This time disappearing without even saying a word?

Somehow you found it disheartening.

It wasn't until you heard from the villagers about a man who sat by the lake at night, that you felt there was a spark of hope.

You wandered over to the isolated lake. It was hidden between leaves and branches and as you pushed them out of the way, you hoped you would lay eyes on him.

There, you saw him.

He was actually there. For a moment, a flash of satisfaction overcame you before it faded into nothingness.

Looking at his stature from behind him, he looked rather relaxed. He was sitting rather comfortably. His eyes not leaving the water in front of him.

You walked up to him and stood at his side, "So this is where you were."

His eyes snapped upwards to see yours.

"You're back."

Kibutsuji sat silently.

"I was looking for you all afternoon."

He didn't respond.

"I didn't expect to see you here," you noted.

"It's quiet here," he responded.

"May I ask what you've been doing since my departure?"

"Nothing that would alarm you," his head turned forward.

It was a very vague answer. You paid it little mind.

A silence seemed to fill the space before he spoke, "You were gone for awhile," he expressed.
