This is a beach in Sumba, which is an island in Indonesia. I am scared people are going to hear about it, cause it is currently very peaceful as there is practically no one there, ever.
It has a beautiful white rock cliff, that hides a natural cave. Inside the cave is more rocks, on which it is nice to sit and watch the sea and waves. You can't really see anything else than the sea when you're inside the cave, and it seems to me that its only axis, is towards it. And surely it's its only purpose.. watch the sea until the tide comes up and it is chasing you away. Catch a glance but don't stare for too long, it doesn't like it.
It is a small beach, and on the other side is like a big big rock going kind of in the ocean .. ? with trees on it. It is magnificent. When the tide is low, on that side you can see clear blue water with rocks underneath. Both during low and high tide is nice to have a swim, and the sand is white. Some big waves are forming further away, but get weak as they approach. On the beach, old Indonesian men ask you to buy a coconut. The price is around one euro, and they cut it for you very quickly and easily, using a traditional knife. They don't speak or understand any english but will smile at you. The cocos are really fresh, delicious, feel like heaven. When you're done drinking, they will carve a "spoon" on the side of the coco shell, open it in half, hand it to you, and you scoop out the young coconut flesh. It is actually not the same taste at all as the too-ripe-coconuts they sell us in occidental countries. It is gelatinous, almost transparent, and so tasty.
There's a few traditional houses in the village up the hill behind the beach, where they raise buffalos, dogs and pigs. The women are doing textile work, a piece of fabric called an "ikat" that requires a lot of technique and patience, it is possibly an ancestral tradition. The children are running, barefoot on rocky and dusty ground. They use bamboo to build most of the house, but also pandan leaves for the mats, volcanic rocks for the graves. They don't have much, their people die of diseases because they don't have access to any medicine, but still they look, kind of, happy. If i don't come back here, i'm a bitch.
