AUTHOR'S POV-
The sun was beginning to set as YN and RM returned to their apartment, the warm glow of twilight casting a golden hue over everything. The day had been long, filled with more questions than answers, but the encounter with Bogum and his grandmother had left them feeling lighter, more hopeful. It was as if the universe had sent them a reminder that even in the midst of uncertainty, their love was something to cherish.
After dinner, they settled onto the couch, the journal open on RM's lap. YN leaned against him, her head resting on his shoulder, as they revisited the passages they had studied so many times before.
"There's something here we're missing," RM said, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Something about the portal and the key... it has to mean something."
YN nodded, her eyes scanning the page. "I keep thinking about what Bogum’s grandmother said, how children see things clearly. Maybe we’re overcomplicating this. What if the key isn’t a physical object, but something more... symbolic?"
RM tilted his head, considering her words. "Like what? Our connection? Our love?"
"Maybe," YN said thoughtfully. "Or maybe it’s about acceptance, accepting our past, our love, and everything that comes with it. The portal could represent a new beginning, a way to move forward while honouring what we had before."
RM’s hand tightened around hers. "That makes sense. In our past life, we were forced apart by circumstances beyond our control. But in this life, we have the chance to make different choices. We can choose each other."
YN looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of hope and determination. "But how do we do that? How do we make sure we don’t lose each other again?"
RM gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing across her cheek. "By staying together, by fighting for what we have. No matter what comes our way, we won’t let anything or anyone pull us apart."
The conviction in his voice sent a shiver down YN's spine. She knew he meant every word, and she felt the same. They had already been through so much, and their bond had only grown stronger."
But what if our past comes back to haunt us?" YN whispered, her fears still lingering at the edges of her thoughts. "What if history repeats itself?"
RM leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. "Then we face it together. We’ve been given a second chance, YN. We won’t let it slip away."
His lips brushed hers, a gentle kiss that conveyed all the love and reassurance she needed. As their kiss deepened, YN felt the last remnants of doubt begin to fade. She knew that no matter what their past had been, their future was something they could shape with their own hands.
When they finally pulled away, RM’s eyes were dark with emotion. "Let’s go back to the place where it all started," he said, his voice steady. "To the place where Captain Kim and the doctor met. Maybe being there will help us find the answers we need."
YN’s heart skipped a beat at the thought. Returning to the site of their past life, the place where their love had blossomed and been torn apart, was a daunting idea, but one that felt right.
"Yes," she agreed, her voice firm. "Let’s go back. Together."
As they made plans for the journey, YN couldn’t help but feel that they were on the brink of something big, something that would finally allow them to understand their past and secure their future.
And no matter what they found, she knew that with RM by her side, they could face anything. Their love had survived lifetimes, and now, they would do everything in their power to ensure it would continue for many more to come.
