Chapter 9: ...They see right through me

"Don't worry sir. We got this under control." kai says to someone on the phone.

I try to eavesdrop on the conversation, but it seems Kai is doing most of the listening. I give up and decide to go in the office to look over the layout of the hotel. Kai had a plan to take an entire room of people hostage during a party just to gain access to the office on the 23rd floor.

I told him, instead of that, we could just go as party goers. I manage to get us an invitation to the Gala thrown by Obidiah stave and while I'm downstairs keeping him and his high-profile guest distracted, he could be upstairs getting what we need.

He didn't really like the plan. He would rather go in guns blazing. Me, I don't know if it's because I was around Tony too long, but I like to approach situations with as much style and grace as possible.

I pull out the black backless dress, I'm supposed to wear and I cant help but think about the last time I wore something so extravagant. It was Tonys birthday. He wore a blue suit with black lapels, and I work a nay blue dress. we arrived together but he left with Pepper. I cant help but smile as I think about him and how far he had come from the time we met all the way up to the time I left. I just wish I at least got a chance to say goodbye.

I'm ripped from my memories and my head whips toward the door. I listen and I realize, Kai is no longer on the phone. Hes talking, but there are other voices in the room with him. I walk quietly and slowly to the door. I press my ear against it and listen.

I step back when I hear its Steve. how did they find me? I walk over to the window, debating whether to run and disappear and hope S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't find me or stay and see how this plays out.

I turn around and walk over to the front of the desk. I hop on top and sit. I cross my legs, and I wait. And just like clockwork, within the next few minutes, the doors burst open and Kai stumbles in almost falling over.

Once everyone gathers in the room, Kai stands upright and adjusts his silk robe. He looks like they may have manhandled him a bit. He can be a bit of a prick when he wants to, and he doesn't take threats seriously.

I take in our company and I'm not surprised, Tony and Loki refuse to face me. I roll my eyes at the thought. My smile widens as I take in the one with the metal arm. I watch as his gaze turns from awestricken to stoic and I cant help but smile at him. when he frowns, I wink at him and then turn my attention to the dazzling red head beside him.

I hop off the desk and walk slowly towards her, but Kai grabs my wrist, so I turn and to him and place my hands on his chest and look up into his eyes lovingly. I giggle and Kai begins laughing too as he wraps a hand around my waist. "We have guest."

I turn my head and let my gaze travel over Steve, "Hello steven. Nice of you to drop by."

Kai squeezes me and I squeal. "Ask our guest if they would like a beverage. I would but I was told if I made 1 more sudden move they would shoot me."

I kiss Kai and say, "You are so selfless, you know that?" he smiles down at me, and he bends his head to kiss me but just before our lips could touch, Steve clears his throat loudly and says, "We didn't come here for all of that. Cali we are here for the information you stole."

I turn and Kai positions me directly in front of him and I raise my hands up, gesturing , I don't know. "I don't have it. sorry."

"What do you mean you don't have it?" Steve asks sounding worried and pissed.

I break away from kai and walk over to Steve. I circle him as I say, "exactly that my dear steven. I don't have it."

I stop walking when I get to the metal arm man, and I look up into those beautiful blue eyes. he doesn't flinch at my close proximity. Either he don't know who I am, or he don't know what I'm capable of. either way I like it. "And who are you?"
