Chapter Three: Ceo/Coo

•Adonis•

I climbed out of the car after parking it in the lot. I walked into firm, strolling towards the receptionist.

"Good morning Mr Huang" She greeted with a polite grin. I nodded as a response, scanning the register book for every employee that has arrived.

"Has Ms Bankole arrived?" I asked, raising my head to meet her eyes.

"Yes sir" She nodded. "She was in a hurry that's was the reason she couldn't sign into the company" She added. I thanked her, then walked to the elevator. I pressed the button, going into the elevator, pressing the button to my floor before the door closed with a ding.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror taking in the charcoal grey suit jacket, white button up and a matching grey pants.  I really need to speak to father's lawyer, they really need to sort out my father's will and all.

The elevator opened up with a ding. I stepped out of the elevator going into my office.

"I've got to start this day" I shrugged my suit jacket off, tossing it on the couch  before plopping down on my office chair. I grabbed the office telephone and dialed Ms Bankole's office phone.

She answered the phone on the third ring, "Good morning Mr Huang" She greeted.

"Morning to you too Tammy" I replied. "Can you drop by my office?" I asked politely as she hummed. I dropped the phone, going to scroll through the emails Tammy had sent my father while he was still alive.

This fashion firm has been passed down from generations to generations as it was passed down from my grandfather to my father and now me, I need to keep pushing the progress of the firm with all my might. Facing all of the fucking competitors on the goddamn line.

The soft knock on the door jolted me out of my thoughts.

"Mr Huang?" Tammy called from behind the door.

"Common in" The door creaked open, as she walked in.

As she entered, I couldn't help but notice the way her eyes sparkled in the fluorescent lighting. I pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand.

"Tammy, thanks for coming," I said, trying to sound confident. I gestured to the chair across from my desk, and she sat down, her posture straight and professional.

"Of course, Adonis," she replied, her voice firm but polite. "What can I do for you?"

"Mr Huang" I corrected, forcing a smile as she nodded.

I leaned back in my chair, trying to seem relaxed. "I wanted to discuss the new design we're about to launch. And my father's will."

Tammy's expression turned guarded. "I know nothing about the will, Sir. But I'd be happy to discuss the design."

I nodded, impressed despite myself. Tammy had always been knowledgeable about the business, but I had expected her to be more... deferential. After all, I was the one in charge now.

"It's going to be a game-changer," she continued. "We've done extensive market research, and it's exactly what the masses are looking for."

I nodded, taking notes as she spoke. But when I asked her to help me sort out some files, she hesitated.

"I'm not your assistant, Adonis," she said, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I was your father's."

I frowned, taken aback. "Semantics, Tammy. I'm in charge now. I'm the CEO."

Tammy's smile was sweet but firm. "Actually, Adonis, you're the COO. There's a difference."

I felt a surge of annoyance, but Tammy just nodded. "It would be my pleasure if you need any help, Adonis. And I'll do it as the manager."

I watched her leave, feeling frustrated and a little out of my depth. Who did Tammy think she was, correcting me like that? I made a mental note to assert my authority more clearly. After all, I was the one in charge now.

And I'm definitely older than she is. Shrugging the thought of Tammy, I stood on my feet. Walking towards the shelf as I started to take some files out of the previous firms he had deals with.

I tossed the paper files on the desk, loosening my tie a bit. I really hate ties. I open the button of the shirt, rolling it halfway my sleeves as I went through the file.

I really need to get myself an assistant ASAP

My phone rang for the fourth time distracting me from my work. I groaned in frustrating, grabbing the phone to check who the caller was and it was Ava. She was so gonna get a piece of.my mind.

"What do you want?" I growled into the phone.

"You need to calm down" She said making me more vexed.

"What the fuck do you want Ava? I'm working!" I said checking the time from the watch on my wrist. Shit! It's nine thirty pm. I must have lost track of time.

She let out a scoff before talking. "nâi nai is so angry that you missed dinner last night"

Shit!

"Are you gonna drop by tonight?" She asked.

"I'm afraid not" I said packing up the files ready to leave the office. "I'm still at work and I'm really tired" I added, grabbing my suit jacket before walking out of the office towards the elevator.

"You aren't gonna drop by tonight?" She asked.

"I just said that" I said through gritted teeth, my patience already wearing thin.

"What about first thing tomorrow morning?" She prompted.

"I've got a life Ava. I can't drop by first thing tomorrow morning but I'm gonna make a time for grandma okay?" I stated.

"Okay" She replied.

"Good. Now I'm going into the elevator, the call is gonna disconnect. Don't think of calling me back, bye" I said, disconnecting the call before she could reply. I pressed the button of the elevator, causing it to open. I got into it, pressing the button to the ground floor.

The door opened up at the last floor, as I came out. I walked out of the firm,  modding as the security men greeted. I'm a man with few words.

I got to where my car was packed. Got into it, and drove home. I'm really exhausted.
