Chapter 9: A Date

Rookie got up from his bed. He yawned and checked the time. "I got up a little earlier than usual." He walked out of his room and went to the bathroom. He then went downstairs and made some breakfast. He sat down and started eating. SNT came inside the house. "Hey." He waved. "Where did you go?" Rookie asked. He continued eating. "There's a note from your brother in the fridge. Since he didn't make anything today I went back to the diner to get breakfast." He looked to see a sticky note addressed to him. "How did I not notice that?" He questioned. SNT sat down on the chair across Rookie. "I checked out some places while you were asleep. It's pretty nice to see all of the Egg Tech left around has been repurposed." "If there's one thing Eggman's good at, it's making recyclable material. All those times Sonic broke his machines really taught him to care about the environment more." He chuckled.
Rookie drank the milk and put his empty bowl in the sink. "You ready to go to Park Avenue now?" S asked. Rookie nodded his head. She gets up and begins to leave before Rookie stopped her. "Hey SNT.." He blushed. "..Is it okay if I-I mean you don't have to but.. could this be a date?" SNT smiled and blushed. "Of course!" Rookie's tail wagged a bit. SNT thought that was adorable. They both walked out of the house. "It's-" Rookie cleared his throat. "It's running distance from here." Rookie said before speeding off. SNT followed. She bolted past Rookie before slowing down and matching his speed. "Sorry! I'm so used to running with Sonic and Shadow." "You don't have to wait for me." "But I don't know where the park is?" They went through a loop. "Well it's not far from my house." They jumped off of a spring and they landed in a designated area that was there to prevent injuries. SNT looked around. There was no sign of construction besides the buildings on the outskirts of the park. "Here's the park! This place is nice for a quick break. Green Hill is far so many people use this park as an alternative." "It's nice." SNT was a little disappointed. The two walked around the park. "Ahh, nice and quiet." Rookie said. "It is nice to get away from all of the noise in the city. It gets annoying after awhile." SNT walked to a fountain. She noticed some coins inside. She tossed one of her rings in the fountain. The fountain started to shine a little bit. "Now it's more like the fountains back home."
"How are you liking it so far?" Rookie asked waiting for an answer. "It's okay. Thanks for showing me though!" Rookie frowned. He hoped she would enjoy the park as much as he did. "I think it's amazing! It's definitely nostalgia, me and my brother used to go here all the time when we were kids." SNT sat down on the fountain. Rookie sat on the bench across from it. SNT then quickly got up from the fountain and sat down on the bench. The two just sat there not knowing what to do. Rookie looked down at his hand. It was close to SNT's hand. He slowly moved it on top of S' hand. He looked up at her flustered. She was flustered as well. Both of them looked at their hands. Rookie's attention was diverted when he heard someone call his brother's name. He looked up to see Amy looking at him. She had an angry expression before going to a more surprised look. "Sorry! It's so hard to tell you two apart. You were about to hear an earful." "I did suggest to him to go back to his contacts but he insists on keeping the glasses." "I have a way to tell between them." SNT chimed in. "You do?" Amy and Rookie both said. "Yeah! Rookie's fur has a darker shade of red and is more maintained. Gadget's fur is a bright red and it's more fluffy." Amy looked at Rookie's fur. "It is more maintained! Thanks for the tip! Sorry for interrupting your date." Amy looked a little embarrassed. "Don't worry about it. What are you doing at the park anyways?" Rookie asked. "Rouge and Blaze are hosting for the show today, so me and Sonic are able to go on a date!" Amy said excitedly. "Did he say it was a date?" Rookie was skeptical of Sonic going on a date at all. "You know how he is! He'll never say it out loud but deep down he knows it is." SNT was looking around the park for Sonic. She saw a crowd of people in one spot. "Is he there?" S pointed at the crowd. "Yup! Weird, he's here on time." Amy questioned. "How is that weird?" SNT asked. "He always comes late. He says he does in order to not attract a crowd. I guess he wasn't making an excuse after all. I gotta get rid of this crowd." Amy ran towards the crowd. SNT and Rookie both heard her shout "Back off, we're trying to have a date!"
The Dimensional Duo were amused hearing that. They watched the crowd disperse, leaving Sonic and Amy alone. "Guess this is a good dating spot." SNT said smiling. "No Infinites around to ruin it." Rookie smiled back. "Don't jinx it." SNT hits Rookie's shoulder playfully. She decided to check to see where he was. Rookie noticed her focusing. "Don't tell me you're looking for him." "He's not going to do anything. He's busy talking to Scratch and Grounder. He seems a little mad at them for some reason?" "He threatened me to not look for him too much." SNT glad the feeling of Infinite sensing her. "Well I'll make sure he won't do anything to you." She was radiating confidence. A little bit of her Special Aura appeared. SNT stopped feeling Infinite sensing her. The two continued sitting on the bench holding hands. Their hands clasped together. Both of them didn't say anything about it. Rookie was relaxing and staring at the fountain as he tried to figure out if it was always so bright. SNT wasn't too impressed by what the park had to offer. She was instead thinking of how to confess to Rookie. She struggled to think of a way of doing so. Her thought process was interrupted when Rookie got her attention. "Have you been listening to a word I've been saying?" "Oh!.. sorry I was thinking about something." "Nevermind." Rookie looked a little annoyed. She went back to thinking, an idea eventually popped in her head.
"Hey Rookie! I want to show you something!" "That's a surprise. I'm suppose to be showing you around this week." "Well it's my turn!" She got up and started walking out of the park. She didn't know where an exit was. Rookie eventually took the lead and went the right way. The two of them still held each others hands. When they were out of the park she told Rookie to grab her other hand. Rookie a little nervous, grabbed her other hand. He started to lean in for a kiss before he was lifted off the ground. He checked to see if SNT noticed what he did but it didn't look like she did. "I can't really see where we're going." Rookie facing behind them. "I want it to be a surprise!" SNT said. She was excited about her confession plan. As Rookie looked around where they flew past, he realized where he was going. "Are we going to Green Hill?" He asked. "Yes, But! I'm showing you something you haven't seen before! At least I hope so." She whispered that last part. She eventually brought them down next to a loop de loop. The loop had a mountain behind it making the top accessible. "Wait is this!" Rookie looked around "It is!" "Tada!" SNT showed off the loop. "It's a loop de loop." Rookie was acting like he didn't know this area. "It's not just A loop de loop. It's THE loop de loop." She flew up. Rookie just stood there for a bit. "Aren't you going to fly me up as well?" "I think it'll be better if you got up here by yourself." "Oookay." Rookie grinned. He climbed the mountain a little before platforming across parts of the mountain sticking out. When he was high enough he jumped onto the loop. He brushed off the dust.
"Great job!" SNT shortly applauded. She was sitting next to a broken TV box. He sat next to her. "Like the view?" SNT eagerly asked. When Rookie looked at the view he couldn't pretend he didn't know this place anymore. He looked at the broken TV Box. "This brings back memories." Rookie cringed a little. "You've been here before?" "Yeah." SNT frowned. "I was actually going to ask someone out here." "You are!" "I was. In middle school I had a crush on a girl, she was the smartest fox I knew at the time. One day I decided to ask her out, but before that I practiced.. A lot." He blushed in embarrassment. "Let's talk about something else." Rookie didn't want to finish his story. "No! You have to keep going! I want to hear this!" SNT encouraged. "I went to this very hill since I heard Sonic loves this one. Since I look up to Sonic I thought it would be a great idea if I.." He groaned. "If I confessed on this hill! I liked the view and thought she would too." He sighed. "So what did she say?" SNT asked, invested in the story. "I didn't even get to bring her. She declined my offer to take her here." "What!" "Hehe, yeah. I was so mad at myself for rehearsing. I broke the TV out of anger when I went back that day." He laughed a little remembering that. They both looked at the broken TV. "It was an Eggman box." "Ouch." "Yeah. Gadget scolded me when he found out I hit an Eggman box." Rookie was completely embarrassed.
"I think that was sweet of you to do, even if you didn't actually get to confess to her. But you know you can try confessing to someone here now. I'd love it if you did." SNT smiled and shyly looked at the floor. It took Rookie a little to process what she said. "O-oh!.. I'd l-like to." He grabbed her hand. "SNT. I always thought happiness started with H.. Actually that's a terrible pick up line. I don't know why-" he was cut off by SNT kissing him on the lips. He was stunned that they were now kissing. He closed his eyes and enjoyed it. When they stopped kissing, SNT was blushing like crazy. "Sorry! I couldn't wait for you to finish your confession! I-I um.." She couldn't finish her sentence. Rookie was smiling hard. He couldn't stop. "Would you like to go out with me?" He asked gazing into her eyes. "Yes!" SNT tackled Rookie and started to hug him. "Ahh!" Rookie wasn't expecting that. "Sorry!" She got up. "Was that too much?" "Just wasn't expecting it. That's all." The two got up. SNT's face was red and Rookie held her hand. The two stood up. "I was about to say my confession before you revealed you already have been here." SNT said. Rookie looked at her. "You can tell me now. It should be a lot easier to say now that we're dating." He smiled and was blushing. SNT prepared herself briefly before starting.
"Rookie. Ever since I met you, you've given me a whole new perspective on everything! This dimension is so familiar but there's always something new to do here! And I love exploring with you! Every time we hang out, I just want to stay with you forever. You've been able to give me confidence against the unknown and melt away my fears! You were so accepting when I told you I was created by Eggman. Even though we were just strangers, you didn't have any worries or doubts about me! I was able to tell everyone in my dimension who I really was because of that! Even though I thought they knew for the longest time. When I'm with you, I can do anything! I love you Gizmo!" SNT kissed Rookie. Rookie tried to find the right words to say describe how he felt. But he ended up crying tears of joy. SNT saw him crying. "Oh no did I say something wrong! I should've rehearsed this!" "No it's tears of joy." Rookie clarified. SNT's fear was put to rest. Rookie hugged SNT. She hugged back. Rookie let go and took off his glasses to wipe the tears away. "Sorry for crying. A lot of emotion came through is all." The two looked at the horizon as the sun went down. Time flew by the two as they held each other in their arms.

The Dimensional Duo walked inside their house. "Gadget I'm home!" Rookie announced. There was no response. "I guess he's not home. I was hoping he'd make dinner for us. Whenever he comes home before me, he surprises me by cooking my favorite meal." "What's your favorite food?" "Salmon." "No wonder your breath smelled like salmon." SNT laughed. "It did!" Rookie was petrified. "It's a joke!" SNT told him. Rookie became relieved. "Phew! I thought I ruined our first kiss. Don't scare me like that!" SNT was laughing. "Our first kiss was great." She blushed. Rookie walked over to the freezer. "Guess I'll make dinner for us then." "Can you teach me how to make Salmon? I want to learn how to make more stuff." "Of course!" Rookie asked her to grab the utensils and dishes needed to prepare the dish. Rookie then taught SNT how to make the dish.
