Across the Rift (SNT X Rookie/Gizmo)

Chapter 23: Break Through It All

Sonic and SNT entered Eggman's abandoned base. Sonic immediately went to join the fight while SNT observed the environment first. Metal SNT was fighting Gadget, Maria and now Sonic. Sonic was hopping from the walls to hit Metal SNT who was flying. There were still broken robot parts from the last time they attacked Eggman's base and the red lights were still flashing. There was shouting coming from upstairs. SNT decided to head upstairs, jumped over the pit in front of the stairs and went to see what was happening there. Miles and Amy were grabbing onto an item. Infinite was using Null Cubes that formed a hand that was holding on to the same object Amy and Miles were holding. The thing being fought over was the Pink Chaos Emerald! Before SNT could help her friends, Infinite grabbed the Emerald and absorbed it. He chuckled "So close." Energy was forming around Infinite and he released it.
SNT was blasted out of the base and she fell back down to the hole. "SNT! Get up!" SNT held her head and Rookie helped her get back up. He lead her to the bag of Chaos Emeralds. They were hidden behind a pipe where SNT and Maria put them before the fighting began. "Now we just need to get the Chaos Emerald Infinite and Eggman have." SNT checked the bag and only counted five. "..right." SNT awkwardly turned to Rookie while she moved all of the Emeralds in her heart shaped bag. Rookie noticed her. "You only have five in there, don't you." SNT nodded making a poker face. "Thanks for telling me." Rookie rolled his eyes. "I'd like to see you keep track while your Dimension's falling apart." SNT muttered sarcastically. "I'll look for the last one. Use the rest of the Emeralds to beat down Infinite." An explosion erupted in the building cueing SNT to get back into the fight. "Good luck SNT." Rookie smooched SNT. "I don't need luck." She grinned.
SNT flew back inside the abandoned building and dodged a piece of the second floor. She flew up the stairs until she reached the 5th floor. Everyone was throwing random objects at each other. "Are you sure we should be destroying his base?" "He has Eggmanland now. He won't care if this place falls." Infinite lifted the piece of the roof Sonic was hiding behind. Sonic held onto it and kicked it towards Infinite. Infinite summoned a wall. SNT stealthy crawled over to her friend's side and said. "I have the Emeralds." Everyone looked at her like she said something dumb. "Thanks for telling us!" Metal SNT shot above SNT and the ceiling collapsed. SNT dodged only to get punched by Infinite. She broke a control panel. Before the fighting could continue the entire building shook. Infinite teleported away and Metal SNT broke through a wall. Sonic followed her while everyone else ran downstairs. "Did you happen to find the sixth Emerald?" Maria asked SNT. "Rookie's looking for it." "I thought you already had it!" Amy said. Some rubble blocked the stairs leading to the first floor. Gadget knocked on the wall. "One of you break down this wall. It's not supporting the tower." Amy swung her hammer and broke it. Everyone jumped out.
Sonic was fighting Metal SNT and Infinite. "Jeez for having a Chaos Emerald AND a Phantom Ruby, you sure aren't getting anywhere with this fight." Sonic snickered. "I am merely entertaining myself. Once I get bored of you. I will destroy you. Quickly." "I'm with Sonic on this one. I'm not trying to get any more loose screws fighting these guys." Infinite glanced at Metal SNT. "Fine. I was getting bored anyways." Infinite activated the Phantom Ruby. "What? Going to teleport us to Eggmanland ne-" Gadget got launched out of sight by Infinite's tail. He snapped his fingers.

Everyone was at the center of Eggmanland. Originally there was a giant statue of Eggman that was able to be seen across the whole park, however now it was just a bunch of rubble on the floor. Gadget was coming towards them and Maria instantly went to catch him. Sonic also went to cushion Gadget's impact. Maria caught Gadget but was sent flying with him and Sonic caught both of them. He struggled to fight against the force and was eventually sent flying with them. They all hit a piece of the statue, Maria and Gadget were knocked out but Sonic was still conscious. Miles helped him up. "Boo. I wanted to see him splat. I could pretend it was his brother." Infinite chuckled and SNT was furious by that comment. Infinite noticed. "What? Sonic wanted to see my full power." "You're still too WEAK!" Sonic went to homing attack Infinite but Infinite moved out of the way. He grabbed Sonic by the collar and pulled him close to his face. "What did you call me." "Weak. I mean, a guy like you must be called that all the time." Miles motioned for Sonic to stop talking but it was no use. "Even looking at you I could tell." Infinite kicked Sonic and teleported to where he was headed. Infinite then punched Sonic before holding him in the air for a couple of seconds. Sonic tried to get out of his grasp before Infinite threw Sonic to the floor, knocking him unconscious. Infinite was about to stab him with a giant sword he made, but Miles homing attacked him. Infinite dodged and Metal SNT grabbed Miles. "Let's do him instead." Amy threw her hammer at Metal SNT but Infinite, without looking in her direction, summoned a wall blocking it. SNT hit them both with a homing attack. She already absorbed the Chaos Emeralds before attacking. She was glowing multiple colors which were all almost faded to pure white.
"Still not enough power." Miles muttered. "Sonic!?" Tails ran to Sonic's unconscious body. He started tearing up. "Please please please be okay!"Amy turned to the group. "We should bring them to the others. Who knows what could happen if we leave them here while fighting!" "You're right Amy but, what about SNT?" Miles considered. "SNT can handle herself." "You sure?" Tails asked. "This is SNT we're talking about! She's dealt with this clown before." Both Tails nodded. "Cream and Vanilla are keeping wounded Mobians safe! They're over here!" Tails ran towards now demolished restaurants. Amy followed carrying Gadget, and Maria, while Miles carried Sonic. SNT punched Metal SNT who collided with Infinite, sending them towards an Eggman themed rollercoaster. Infinite and Metal SNT moved away from the tracks, as the roller coaster fell apart. Metal SNT saw some civilians running towards cover. "How can you not handle everyone here Egghead! Ugh." She turned to Infinite. "See Infinite, this is why you should've killed them all when you found them and I could've help Eggy take out the-" Metal SNT was shattered to pieces instantly, as SNT dashed towards her. Infinite dodged SNT but she quickly turned around and hit him. Infinite hit a carousal ride. "I've had enough of you threatening my friends." She glared. Infinite teleported to SNT and she swung a punch at him. Infinite dodged and kicked her into the air and teleported above her, kicking her back to the floor. SNT gritted her teeth. "You may have five Chaos Emeralds. But you're not invincible." He summoned a bunch of Null Cubes. He threw them in clusters. SNT dodged one and jumped on another. She looked behind her to see a bird civilian who was hiding in the carousel get hit by the Cubes and fall to the ground. The Cubes surrounded them. SNT then got hit by one, falling to the ground as well. Null Cubes surrounded her and she winced in pain. "I'll make sure no one saves you this time." Infinite slowly walked towards her. SNT grabbed the Cubes and slowly slammed them to the ground. Infinite was shocked. "I..! Am sick..! And tired..! Of your illusions!!!" SNT chucked some towards Infinite which hit him. He struggled to keep himself standing. SNT kicked him backwards and he fell towards the ground. Infinite used a piece of the rollercoaster to stand himself up, then swatted the Cubes away. He growled. SNT and Infinite were getting ready to fight before they both looked around. "Do you feel like we're being watched." SNT asked.
A Light Blue Chaos Emerald was thrown and SNT absorbed it. "I hope you're using the other Emeralds or else that wouldn't be as cool." Rookie rubbed the back of his head. He was floating behind Infinite and slightly glowing light blue. Infinite turned around and jumped back a little. "WHEN THE FU-" before he could finish his sentence, SNT grabbed Infinite by his leg and tossed him all the way to the ferris wheel. SNT looked to Rookie. "The Emerald was in your house. It was in your room actually." "But I don't remember having an Emerald in my room." SNT and Rookie flew to the other side of the park, where Infinite was. Infinite brushed off some dust on his shoulder and crossed his arms. "Well. Well. Look who decided to stop hiding from me. I'll have to deal with you after I defeat SNT." "As if that'll ever happen." The Dimensional Duo said in sync. SNT dashed towards Infinite. Infinite tried to move out of the way to counterattack however, Rookie summoned a wall to where he was going. Infinite hit the wall breaking it, SNT kicked him back into the ferris wheel. Rookie caught the debris falling, saving civilians below. He threw it at Infinite. Infinite shot a Null Laser at Rookie but it went through him. Rookie sighed in relief. Infinite flew to the top of the now broken ferris wheel. As the cart he was on rose up to the top, Infinite glowed red. "A two versus one battle isn't fair. Is it? Let's give me an advantage then." Two illusions of himself appeared. They hopped towards the Duo one by one. SNT kicked one while the other punched her. Rookie shot a Null Beam to the third and grabbed his arm. He expected the Infinite to glitch however, he didn't. "The Emerald's keeping me stable here." He realized to himself. Infinite grabbed his hand and threw him to SNT. She caught him but this gave another Infinite an opportunity to make her lose her balance. Rookie got up and helped SNT up. He summoned a wall to block a Null Beam, while SNT homing attacked an Infinite. The real Infinite then activated the Phantom Ruby.

The air was surrounded in red and everything started floating. SNT saw a star bumper heading towards her. Before she could brace for the hit she was suddenly teleported. She looked to where she was at and saw Rookie. "Look out!" SNT was hit by Infinite who dashed at her. She suddenly stopped flying in the air. Infinite clenched his fists. "Always full of surprises. Aren't you." "Are you doing this?" SNT asked Rookie who was hitting away objects that flew towards her. Rookie nodded his head. "Scared that she can't handle herself against me. I wouldn't blame you." Infinite threw a broken go cart at SNT. Rookie swapped places with her again. SNT gained her balance in the air. She flew dodging the other floating objects. Rookie swapped places with her and she was able to kick a line of Null Cubes moving to Infinite. He blocked the hit and teleported more towards the center of the theme park. SNT and Rookie flew towards him. Rookie swapped her to the floor as the sky became increasingly cluttered. She ran and saw Cream stuck under some rubble. SNT quickly grabbed her and Rookie swapped places as Infinite threw a broken piece of an Eggman statue where they were. "Can I help you two? I lost my mom and the others." Cream asked as Cheese looked up. Rookie formed a shield above them. "It's too dangerous to have her here. Get her to Vanilla and the others." SNT ran with Cream and Cheese and they started to chat.
As she left Infinite floated down to Rookie. "Now that she's gone. I can finally take you out." Rookie threw a punch at Infinite but he caught it. He kicked Rookie in the stomach and threw Null Cubes at him. The Cubes went through him. "The only reason you've been alive this whole time. Is because of your girlfriend." "If that's the case, then give me all you got." Infinite dashed at Rookie. He could see after images of Infinite as he came closer. Rookie summoned a wall to protect himself however, Infinite broke through it and punched him. Rookie was sent back. Infinite teleported behind him to kick him in the back of his head. Rookie ducked and kicked back. Infinite caught his foot and slammed him to the ground. Rookie quickly moved out of the way from being stomp on and he shot out a Null Beam. Infinite dodged it but he tripped backwards and fell. He looked at the ground to see a line of Null Cubes in front of him. Rookie punched him a few times while he was on the ground. Rookie grabbed something, before Infinite grabbed him by the neck and chucked him away. Rookie hit a wall. The Light Blue aura around him started to fade. Infinite glared at him. "Seems like your power source has ran out."
He flew towards Rookie aiming to punch him. Rookie summoned a wall to protect himself. The wall broke and Rookie summoned another one. Infinite kept breaking them however, Rookie didn't seem to get exhausted. He pushed the wall back and summoned platforms. He jumped on them one by one. "Is that all you can do?" Infinite got up. Infinite was suddenly teleported to the last platform. "I decided to take a few notes from your powers." Rookie grinned as he turned the platform Infinite was on into an explosion of Cubes. Infinite was sent flying. Rookie watched as Infinite summoned a portal above him to catch himself. A portal was then summoned above the broken Eggman Statue. "Can you do that? Or can you only do the more physical aspects of my powers? Cause it seems to me that you haven't made any illusions of your own." He floated down slowly from the portal. "Could it be that you can never amount to anything at all. Like always?" SNT ran to Rookie's side. "Everyone seems to be doing a full on assault on Eggman. It's up to us to keep Infinite away from helping." SNT said making sure she was quiet this time. "There she is. Warm up was fun but it's time to end this." Infinite laughed. "Any last words?" He held his hand right in front of them. Rookie held his finger to his mouth and with the other pulled out the Pink Chaos Emerald. SNT's eyes widened. Infinite shot out a blast and it hit both of them. Smoke was covering his view. Infinite looked around to see if they were flanking him. They were nowhere to be seen. He started laughing maniacally. "I-I actually did it! I finally defeated them! Now the rest of the resistance will fall! I hope Eggman will build me another Metal S-" A yellow light shined from the Duo's direction. Infinite quickly tapped his chest. "IMPOSSIBLE!" "Picked up a thing or two from our favorite thief." Rookie was back in the Dimension. He had a golden glow around him. Rookie looked at himself. "Aw, no super form?" "Well you're already super, silly! Super handsome!" SNT kissed him on the cheek. Her fur and quills had become golden and her eyes were a colorful mixture of blue and pink. Her quills floated as if there was wind blowing upwards and her clothing had become blue and black instead of pink and black. The part of her bangs that were permanently glitched green became red. Infinite shot out another energy blast but Pink Null Cubes blocked it. The pair flew towards Infinite and punched him straight through 3 small rollarcoaster rides. Infinite lifted himself up. "No-" he coughed. "No matter. I still have the remanence of the Emerald's power." "It won't last forever." Rookie pointed out. Infinite tried to swipe at their legs but Rookie summoned Cubes to covered them. Infinite flew back. Rookie flew towards him and grabbed Infinite, throwing him to SNT. She punched Infinite back to Rookie and he summoned a baseball bat. Rookie swung and hit Infinite. SNT spun into a ball and collided into Infinite. They both went back to Rookie and he only caught SNT. SNT unraveled out of her ball form and embraced Rookie, grinning. Infinite was left flying into a shattered dunk tank. He hit the target face first. He looked back and saw them embracing each other giggling. He teleported behind them but SNT moved them away from Infinite's attack. He teleported behind them again but this time SNT swiped him away. Infinite dodged the attack but Rookie hit him with a sweeping kick of his own. Infinite tripped and attempted to teleport away but Rookie grabbed onto him. Infinite grabbed him and shoved Rookie away. SNT was able to take the opportunity to kick him upwards. She spun into a ball and flew up to hit Infinite. Before she could reach him the world started twisting around them.

SNT and Rookie looked at each other. "Your super form may be pretty. But it's useless in my world." Infinite's voice could be heard around the whole world. They were in Null Space. "Don't worry. As long as we're together, he won't hurt us." SNT's heart sank. "That's what you said in my nightmares." She instantly tackled him to the ground, as the floor started to split apart. SNT dragged Rookie further away, her breathing scattered. She looked back at the crack on the floor. The hole grew wider and Rookie got up on his feet. SNT held on to him, he was shaking. Infinite spoke. "Look familiar Rookie? This time it'll be real. HAHAHAAHAHA!" "I'm breaking this illusion." Rookie clasped his hands for a couple of seconds before opening them. Nothing happened.
Infinite appeared in front of them. SNT stumbled back and Rookie froze. "What? Surprised this is real?" "W-why aren't we super then!" Rookie took a step back. "I told you. In MY world your powers are useless." Infinite slowly approached Rookie. The ground stretched beneath SNT moving her far from them. She tried to run to them but she only went further away from them. Rookie put on an annoyed face to hide his fear. He tried to move but was too scared. "It was entertaining to see you think you stood a chance against me. I was just toying with you all." Rookie got kicked to the floor. The ground beneath him suddenly disappeared. He started falling. He screamed and flailed all over the place. He quickly looked up to see the ground flying higher and higher from him. He whimpered and sunk into his thoughts for a moment. "Well this is it. This is how I die. Wait no! I can't let this be the end! After everything I've been through, this can't be what gets me! I've done so much with my new powers! Even without them I've done so much! So I should show him what he's underestimating!" Rookie balanced himself in the air. He sensed where everyone was. SNT was very far away from him and it seemed she was going further and Infinite was rapidly coming towards him. Rookie looked in the direction Infinite was coming from but saw no one. He closed his eyes and sensed Infinite again. He summoned a wall behind him and heard a thud. He opened his eyes and turned around to see Infinite dazed. He took this opportunity to use him as a stepping board. He summoned a platform below his feet. Rookie jumped again and repeated his actions until a beam was shot at him. Infinite snapped his fingers and the platform started to shake violently. "Let's see how you like your powers being used against you?" Rookie steadied his balance and kept going. Each platform summoned became more shaky until the last one Rookie summoned. Before he could even step on it, it disappeared. He struck his hand out trying to reach for the floor.
"So close. Yet you're always short of being good enough." Infinite flew away to the floor. He teleported to SNT. SNT was sitting on the floor with her head down. "It's a shame I have to get rid of you. I was secretly hoping I could've just left you here permanently. But you'll just find a way to escape again." SNT looked up at him and smiled. "Good thing you won't have to." A portal appeared to her left and Rookie grabbed SNT. Another portal spawned in front of them and they entered. Infinite floated there for a couple of seconds. "HOW!?" He angrily shouted.

The Dimensional Duo slightly glitched when they exited the portal. SNT glitched from her normal form, to her form in Rookie's dimension, then she glitched back to her normal form before finally glitching into her super form. Rookie glitched in and out of his ghost form before glitching back with a golden glow around him. "I heard what you said to him. How did you know I was coming?" Rookie wondered. "I could feel you summoned a portal. I think your powers are linked with mine. Thanks for saving me! You looked very heroic while doing it!" She winked at him and giggled. Rookie blushed and nervously chuckled. "C-can't have you always b-being the one saving me." SNT hugged him. "I'm glad you're okay! I-I knew you would be but I was still scared!" SNT hugged him tighter. Rookie hugged back. "I was also scared I wouldn't make it out. But I know how to use these powers despite him thinking otherwise. If we use our powers together, we should be able to take him down and put an end to his illusion!" The two heard a portal open up by a gift shop. Infinite appeared.
He used the Phantom Ruby to shoot a beam from his chest. SNT dodged it, causing the beam to hit a broken down carousel ride. Rookie hopped up and summoned two platforms. He jumped on them to roundhouse kick Infinite. Infinite fell on the floor letting SNT drop dash and ram into Infinite. She launched him back to the gift shop. "Let's take back your Dimension." Rookie said. SNT nodded. Infinite dashed and slammed Rookie against the floor.

Infinite let go. "What is this?! No! This feeling!" SNT uppercutted Infinite. Infinite punched back however his fist phased through SNT. She was a ghost! Rookie's fur was yellow now. He dashed into Infinite.

SNT was back to her super form and Rookie's fur was red again. He still had the golden glow surround him. SNT kicked him and Rookie summoned a portal to where he was going. The portal lead to Rookie and he kicked Infinite to the ground. Infinite grabbed Rookie's leg.

Rookie was now a ghost and SNT kicked Infinite. He was sent flying to a maze of mirrors. Rookie held him in place with Pink Null Cubes. He took this opportunity to grab at the Phantom Ruby. SNT used her Special Aura to help disrupt the illusion.

The world slowly faded back to normal while Rookie and Infinite struggled. "GET! YOUR! HANDS! OFF!" Infinite summoned Null Cubes hitting Rookie however, SNT's Aura destroyed the cubes before they hit her boyfriend. Infinite blasted energy from the Ruby knocking Rookie back. the world faded back to the illusion. "YOU CAN NEVER GET TO MY LEVEL OF POWER!" Infinite tried to shoot out a beam from his hands, but nothing came out. "You don't have any power sources to draw from anymore." Rookie said. SNT gasped! "Oh yeah! Tails said we should get rid of his power source! Rookie you did it!" She hugged him.

A huge flash of light erupted and when SNT and Rookie could see again, Infinite was gone. They both looked around. The sky was blue, the ground was consistently green grass and had normal hills nearby instead of jagged, spiked mountains. The air was no longer cluttered with floating Null Cubes and Eggmanland was the size 1/5th of the size it boasted just seconds ago. SNT got out of her super form and the Chaos Emeralds floated into her bag. "We should go look for him." Rookie nodded and the two started searching. Sonic spotted them and ran to them. "SNT! Her boyfriend whose name I know! We did it!" SNT gave Sonic a high five and Rookie fist bumped him. "Eggman's gonna get a huge fine for littering." Sonic chuckled. "It's not over yet. We still have to look for Infinite." Rookie said, squinting his eyes towards the horizon. "And I'll start setting up the victory party!" Sonic dashed away. "Let's group up with the others. Safety in numbers." SNT picked him up, and caught up to Sonic.
Everyone was crowded around the broken Eggman statue. Eggman was sitting there infront of a broken Death Egg Robot. Sonic and the Chaotix were chatting around Eggman. Gadget and Maria ran to Rookie. "You did it!" Gadget hugged Rookie. "And you're back to normal!" Maria commented. Knuckles looked at the twins in confusion. "Am I the only one seeing this?" Both Tails chuckled. Vanilla, Cream and Amy walked up to SNT. "Not bad." Amy said crossing her arms. "I could say the same to you." SNT said to her. Amy looked away a little flustered. "Me and mom did a good job helping everyone stay safe!" Cream jumped around SNT. "Good job Cream!" She gave Cream and Cheese a high five. "Glad you made it out safe." "Thanks mom- ms- Vanilla!" SNT blushed in embarrassment. Vanilla laughed softly. "Let's get out of here before something explodes!" Both Tails said in unison. "Yeah! This place is too destroyed to have a victory party in!" Sonic said!
